I know there are many expats here from Scotland, a referendum will be held later this year on whether or not to remain part of the UK.

What do you think and why ?

I think England should leave the UK. Why should the English always have to pay for the Welsh, Scottish and Irish?

I agree, but will the Germans take them back into Germany ?

And speaking of Germans, maybe Scotland could charge this gaggle of tourists for visas and re-entry permits every time they do a border run.

I'm Scots - just in case my avatar had you guessing - but if those left living there vote yes for independence, I want to have the right to maintain my British nationality. I'm British first, then Scots. I only hate the English when they beat us at rugby - an all too common occurrence unfortunately.

The population of Scotland is approx 4.5M, but it's estimated that 20 to 25 million are scattered across the globe - not sure if that figure is purely 1st generation of course. Not sure how the vote would go if the expat Scots were allowed the vote - too many romantics maybe. But I'm quietly confident that there's enough sensible folk left in them there purple glens to give it the big No it so rightly deserves.

PS - Mark Carney, the new Governor of The Bank of England, gave a speech to Scottish business leaders in Edinburgh last week. The whole speech is available on the BoE website if anyone's interested. He had to be very careful what he said, but it was what he didn't say that was most interesting!

Better if Scotland leaves so would stop the english goverment and English people moaning about Scotland all the time, would put the onus into NI or Wales

"They may take away our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!" Braveheart

Maybe someone can translate into a Scottish accent?

All that I have seen regarding this just doesn't seem clear ... there are too many 'we'll sort that out later' answers to questions so before they decide I just hope they get a full overview of the facts and consequences before deciding as it affects everyone

Exactly!

There was a resounding No in the referendum in the 70's. Hollywood's version of Wallace's life is the only thing to have changed since. I don't believe all Scots are that stupid!

I read that all current residents of Scotland can vote but overseas Scots cannot

i.e. An Englishman or German living in Scotland at the moment is eligible to cast a vote whereas a Scot living in Asia cannot. Not sure if there's a time limit on how long you have to have been living there either for those non-Scots

There's near 700 pages of documents but currencies, EU related things and various repurcussions all seem to be up in the air. I just hope the vote takes more into account than 'get up yee yee English' and hope a majority of Scots have more to them than 'sticking it to us English'
