February 14, 201412 yr Hi i was wondering if anyone know about Thai customs laws in regards to bringing in knives in your checked baggage (not carry on ) i'm wanting to bring in a small 9 inch Parang knife, but i'm not to sure if i'm allowed to or not. Has anyone else had experience of bringing through a knife at CNX?
February 14, 201412 yr Hello, Absolutely no problem at all. I've always carried a pocket knife (ever since I was a small school boy) and I am also a frequent biz traveller. I always toss my knife in my check baggage before my flights. No issues in Chiang Mai, or anywhere else in the world for that matter. -Mestizo Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app
February 14, 201412 yr Author Thanks Mestizo, my main concern comes from the fact the knife is 9" so although its not massive its a good bit bigger than a pocket knife so i'm kind of unsure if it allowed
February 14, 201412 yr Is there a maximum blade length allowed to be carried on ones person in Thailand?
February 14, 201412 yr You will of course find chopsticks, forks and spoons readiy available. There is a saying only barbarians bring a knife to the table
February 14, 201412 yr I brought a good sized survival knife to Chiang Mai from the US in checked baggage. No problems anywhere along the way.
February 14, 201412 yr I had a 10 inch bladed hunting knife in my check in. No problems at all through Suvanabhumi. As long as its packed away you should be fine.
February 14, 201412 yr I'm not sure if any customs care about any kind of knife.I mean you can buy just about any knife you want in just about any country.
February 14, 201412 yr I got the knife through OK but they did confiscate my Heckler & Koch Submachine Gun last time I travelled through Chiang Mai customs
February 15, 201412 yr I've taken a set of chef's knives through with no problem. I've also brought chefs knives into Thailand, two sets, each on a separate occasion, one as a present. No problem at Bangkok International airport.
February 15, 201412 yr And 15inch machetes ok as well. Most items are referred to as tools so ok but in hold luggage. You can't even board a plane with a metal nail file in your handbag guys.
February 15, 201412 yr i suppose it begs the question - why would i want to carry either a nail file or a handbag?
