That article is talkin about using a freezer as a 'frige. Different temperature range. Saves a lot on electricity and much more ideal on a boat. Thermostat is also good for turning on a fan.

If you're looking to buy online I got one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-Socket-Thermostat-For-Reptile-Snake-Lizard-Incubator-Heat-Lamp-Aquarium-/180891876378?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects&hash=item2a1dfefc1a for an egg incubator. I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Chatuchak market.

Temp range only goes down to 1oC but it does do heating and cooling modes so would work for a freezer / fridge conversion.

I seriously doubt a freezer-as-fridge has any real energy saving advantage over a fridge - even with the "the cold don't spill out no more!" argument - you're still chilling a crap load more air than what you would do in a normal fridge (based on pics shown), and it still takes X energy to chill X amount of air to X degrees at X ambient temp. Even more so if comparing to a modern fridge with 3-5 doors where everything is split into smaller compartments..

I don't limit my needs only to energy savings, but thanks for commenting.
