Two foreigners to be deported in separate cases
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Immigration police have arrested two foreign nationals for separate alleged crimes committed outside Thailand, and are set to deport them to face prosecution in their countries.

At a press conference, police said they had arrested Italian Trubia Giuseppa at the request of the Italian Embassy. Giuseppa was sentenced to a six-year term for raping a woman by a Florence court but fled to Thailand, police said. He entered Thailand through Nong Khai from Laos on February 11 and stayed in hiding in Pattaya, where he was arrested recently.

The other suspect is Taiwanese man Chen Kuo-Shun, who was arrested on Tuesday at the request of Taipei police. Thai police said Chen fled during his court trial, in which he was indicted for possessing 190,000 amphetamine tablets and an illegal drug weighing 81 kilograms, with intent to sell. He was originally sentenced to a 10-year term and was appealing against the decision when he fled.

Chen entered Thailand on February 20 and stayed in hiding in the Lat Phrao area of Bangkok. He was arrested at a shopping mall in the area.

After the arrests, both men had their permission to stay in the Kingdom revoked by Immigration Police, who will soon hand them to the authorities in their respective countries.

The unnamed drug is most likely crystal meth.

Yes, I have been reading where meth is on a steep rise in the triangle. That's all we need now are these Thais on meth.

More people shot.

More Thais on meth?

I guess you haven't taken a taxi early in the morning recently ;)

I'd say atleast a good 25% of them have got the twitches, atleast out here on Pinklao/Nonthaburi

An illegal drug weighing 81 kilograms! That's a lot of ....something! I'm curious why they didn't name the drug?

it must be hard to swallow....

That must be one painful enema. But .... 81kg, I mean come on, that's still got to be worth it.

Most awesome trip ever, man.

I wonder how these guys get caught.

Don't they disguise themselves in any way so they look different than their passport photos or do they shoot their mouth off to their "friends" and get turned in?

I am pretty sure the thai police all over thailand are not memorizing these guys pics and then spotting them on their own.

With modern technology it could be that their mobile phone's are being 'pinged'/located by Police or agencies through equipment in their own country. It is very effective and can trace a mobile to within yards of where it actually is.

Maybe but wouldn't keeping your cellphone from your home country be pretty stupid?

Just about every action movie has people being traced by their cell phone so every one should know to get rid of the phone if you do not want to be tracked.

The unnamed drug is most likely crystal meth.

Why is it "most likely" ?

Given that it would equate to about 2 million yabba pills I think we would have been looking at a longer sentence.

"most likely" because over the last few years, when drug seizures in the 20kg+ range have been made, its been crystal meth.

Good job on the part of the Italian and Taiwan national police agencies for tracking down and identifying their fugitives.

And once again Thai police have to arrest foreign miscreants who have eluded police & immigrations in their own countries.

It was probably marijuana, that's the only drug which I can think of that commonly comes in such large quantities.

Perhaps they didn't name the drug because many countries are now making it legal and it reduces the shocked response somewhat.

I think there are a couple ways i think they might have gotten tracked. I am surprised how quickly they were able to track them down though.

1) Hotel actually turns over guest details to local police upon registration. (isn't there a rule for hotels/guesthouses to do this?)

2) using a cell phone to call someone back home and it was tracked

3) Checking email without proper anonymity.

4) using credit card/debit cards too close to home.

5) Maybe they put down the hotel they were staying at on their arrival/departure card.

Yaba is meth, with a caffeine kicker.
