But the love of these aspirational brands is a common thread . To the Seller ..You allowed your Passport to be Copied ? , thats just stupidity ... Its not a good thing to do , and once his photo is sent around , He will pretty much certainly be Caught . Any Body got a somewhere where I can pick up a Pair of genuine Rayban sunnies ? Could the passport be a fake too ? Hadn't thought of That ..Well , he's an idiot if its his Real passport . Although , surely the Photo must be real . onni4me
I personally would like to know a few things: 1. Who says the watch is fake? Authorized dealer? 2. It is real easy to buy a real watch, change it to a copy, walk with a copy of vendors ID to a copper and claim that I was sold a copy. I am not 100% happy what is told here. Even I had the brain to go to a Rolex store with the seller to check it first. No show, no deal. 3. We have only the Thai guys side of the story and yet most are jumping to coclusions. Where did you get your private detective training?
sandhurstmolonski
Do you know what a Rolex watch means to me? Not a dam_n thing. When you mix up the concepts of being able to tell the time of day with hanging a status symbol off your wrist, you open yourself up for this type of stupidity. I have no sympathy for the mark. Then there is another part of me that wonders what it feels like to be a Thai national on the other end of a scam. How many 'Manhunts' are being conducted for Thai nationals who have scammed foreign tourists? One Walk though a Decent Market , It'd be gone from the gentlemans Wrist in a Flash anyhow . Beetlejuice
Why not arrest all the Thais selling them in the first place Because most do not claim that their watches are genuine. It`s obvious that a Thai stall vendor selling Rolex watches for 600 baht is not selling the genuine article, the Swedish guy was stating otherwise. Unfortunately there is one born every minute that keep these scammers in business. Hope the police catch this con man and thieving scammer real soon, but sadly it is doubtful whether the victim will get his money back.

bushman1666
I bought what what I thought to be a high quality copy for 2000 thb. I wore it for 2 hours before the band broke. I should have reported it to the tourist police, and they could have organised a man hunt for what proved to be a poor copy of a good copy of the original....... In fairness every single thing we buy that is made in Thailand breaks within the first 24 hours. ronaldo0
I have the box and paperwork from my omega i bought in siam paragon. if i was leaving the country for good it would not be difficult to buy a fake of the same watch and sell it it the original box.Think this is what the guy has done, paid for an expensive watch and then got most of his money back by puting a fake in the box of the original watch and floging it to this guy. spidermike007
So selling fake stuff is illegal in thailand? I guess if you only scam them a little its ok Yes, when a Thai citizen gets scammed out of 120,000 baht, it is national news. When a foreigner loses several million baht, it means nothing. All foreigners are very rich, so they do not mind losing money. Besides, most are dumb, so they deserve it. (that was meant as as a pun, for you serious guys). Thais on the other hand do not have much money, so they cannot afford to lose this kind of money. And God forbid, that a foreigner dupes a Thai into losing money on a transaction. Imagine that? What a weird twist of fate! This kind of behavior must be avoided at all costs. Get the guy. Lock him up. Protect the country.
iamariva1957
About time that someone did something about these people selling 'fake' goods and the cops should be so proud that they are showing that they are really cracking down. Yea right.... what a load of BS!!! If a tourist was in this guys position what do you think that the local Plod would do? Not a dam thing. The fact that it seems to have been a Swedish guy doing the selling in this case (but who gives a copy of one's ID for Christ sake at time of sale?!?) that alone has given the Thai police and the buyer the only reason anyone is interested in the first place; one of their own was scammed and by a Farang! Walk along Suk from Nana Station to Terminal 21 on any given day and you will come across the 'trash police' doing their 'good work's': stopping tourist and making them pay 2000bht for dropping a cigarette butt. But they seem to give no attention to the stalls selling fake everything (especially watches, Viagra, stun guns, and the like) right next to their 'table office'. But then these sellers are Thai so it is okay in their eyes and to hell with the rip off of the Farangs. Also remember that Tourism is actually listed as one of the major sources income to this nation as a whole so Thais selling anything gives back right? Another reason why the Police could careless. But to have a Thai pay? That changes everything! Go to the border (at least here in Mae Sot, though I have seen the same sign at other crossings) that warns people of the "bring in" and/or "taking out of" of "counterfeit goods" from Thailand. Personally I love the "Bring in " part... for it should read, "Don't bring in any counterfeit goods because we make enough of our own". As for the taking out part.... it should read, "You need to pay for the license to be able to export any goods from Thailand". This story is a joke. From the legal POV it is symbol of how things are done and the injustice of the system. For if the seller was Thai and the buyer was a Farang in this case what do you think would be the course of action the Plod would undertake...not a dam thing. As for a "Manhunt" ... with any luck at all the seller is long gone and enjoying the cash. Karma is a great thing. To the supposed Swedish guy... good on ya! But let us also remember that this is Thailand and I am sitting here now wondering if all of this was undertaken buy the buyer for something other than the sale to him of a watch? Conspiracy, here in LOS. regarding a sale of an item? No you cannot be serious... LMFAO!!!! The buyer got taken. He was as stupid as the rest of us would be for buying anything called a Rolex (or any other brand name for that matter) without checking first. If he did not know what a Rolex was supposed to look like or have as an indicator of being real (Rolex uses the same system used by car makers... VIN numbers in different places. Easy to have checked in this case at a watch shop)... then he does not deserve one. Actually he should have just bought a car with the money... more of a status symbol and far more useful. So Thai Police... get it together and see the humor in all of this and tell this buyer what you would tell us Fanags.. that nothing can be done. As for a Manhunt... for a fare amount of Tea Money... I can get my local Plod to do a Manhunt for just about any reason.

Nemesis7
I wouldn't be surprised if the Swedish guy bought it from a Thai who claimed it to be genuine then he checked the back and noticed the copied in Thailand tag so he has off loaded it back onto a Thai. How many Thais around the country are selling fake Rolex watches to farangs right under the noses of the police. A farang does the same and it is a "MANHUNT" Totally agree with Chooka. And probably that's actual fact.
Nemesis7
Few days ago, I read a topic here about an old German guy who was beaten up and was robbed roughly about 12000 dollars of him, I didn't notice Thai police was issuing a man haunt order or too keen in searching the culprits. Now a so called smart Thai guy who wanted to have a super deal got fooled ' it has become a big deal'? So many farangs each day some where in this LOS in being conned, not all of them comes in the news, and even they complain, hardly there is any justice served. Most of the time the police tries to negotiate his cut from the crook, but the victim remains the victim. What if the here the Swedish himself was the victim from some Thai who sold him that watch at the first place? So he does the same to return it back where it came at the first place. umbanda
What is really fake merchandise? It is not so easy anymore to find the differences between "real" and fake...specially in watches. Some fakes ones are really very well made...I have one, a very heavy Omega Seamaster Automatic I bought for 700THB in the street of Chiang Mai 3 years ago, and all my "experts" US friends believed that was real.....Works and looks great! In Robinson Central Plaza I bought a Mark Jacob handbag to my wife for 1500THB that sell in the US for 12000THB. Mark Jacob is a French brand. Not label indicating where the bag was made...and the vendors online are all from China. I believe that Robinson do not sell fake merchandise... I own one of the first Casio E-Shock watches made, more than 30 years ago. The back shows " Made in Japan"...The new Casio watches shows just Casio and/or "Japan Movement".... and the same for Swiss Watches, no more Swiss Made..now..Swiss Movement.....Since few years now, Swiss and European watches have also models with Quartz Movement, not only automatics....I believe that very few brands still made in Europe or the US, and some people are paying a lot more..... just for a brand name, a fancy box, and a fabrication number. Time Traveller
INTERPOL ALERT: 100 million baht reward offered for the capture of the Swedish fake rolex seller. This evil person represents the danger to society that Thai citizens must face everyday from the diabolical foreign criminals corrupting Thai politicians and public officials. If we don't bring these foreigners to justice, soon they'll be riding the bus without a ticket or even littering! In other news 2 children blown to pieces by a grenade while at Big C in central bangkok. "Knowledgeble" sources from within the Peoples Democratic protesters are now blaming on foreigners. The above is somewhat fictional. However, I would like to ask how Thaivisa.com can, day-in and day-out publish this anti foreigner trash journalism in which minor crimes - solely because a foreigner was mentioned - become bigger than real crime and events? This article is just a nail in the coffin for Thaivisa.com showing it's lost every last piece of credibility. Of course this is Thailand, and so much is covered up and censored and Thai sheeple never know from the media what happens, but how can any media organization or website present such bias?
GAZZPA
Why not arrest all the Thais selling them in the first place Doh! Hello: Because they don't claim it's the real thing, and sell them for a couple hundred baht! Hence no scam. Just copyright violation (on both sides) but no scam. This on the other hand is a scam. And the guy is toast; good. One less in Pattaya.. quite a few to go. What a load of rubbish. You are basically saying that all the people selling fake Rolex watches are not scamming anyone because they don't tell you its genuine,,, they don't tell you its a fake either. I admit that you would be naive to buy one thinking its real but there are plenty of naive people out there. It is still a scam, they are most certainly ripping people off. The fact is it's one rule for Thai's and another for the foreigners. Not saying what the Swedish guy did was right, it wasn't but if the police want these things to stop then they should squash all the counterfeit stuff being sold everywhere in plain site.
