Question about buying an iPad mini with retina display & warranty

Hello there!

I'm looking to pick up the new iPad mini from Bangkok. However, as some of you may know, some of the units suffer from what is known as image retention or "ghosting" (see this video for information

)

Now I've been to the store in Emporium (rude employees btw) and I've asked if this kinda thing is covered under warranty which they didn't know. I tried calling the service center in Siam Discovery Center and the person didn't understand a word I said.

So I'm asking, do you know if it's covered under warranty in Thailand? Will they replace it on the spot? Will they need to contact Apple first? How long will it take, assuming they will replace it?

If you've had an experience with this, please share :)

Thanks

Just did a google search to see how prevalent (widespread) the issue is... wow. Did not expect this of Apple.

I love that some people say Apple has replaced or refunded purchase without question, while other people state that Apple won't acknowledge the problem exists.

Many posters are suggesting waiting 6-months hoping a newer batch won't have the issue.

If you want to buy one, get the Manager to sign a paper saying the store will replace it if the ghosting/image-retention issue happens.

Hey RichCor

Thanks for replying :) Hmmm is it possible to get a store manager in Thailand to do that (sign a paper etc)? They're usually quite rude and/or pretend not to know what you're saying :/

A store manager is Never going to sign Anything.

He is Not responsible only Apple PLC.

Sales Of Goods Act (UK) is Only to do with Company and customer NOT shop/sales person/Manager.
