April 10, 201411 yr What time at night do they stop the water fight? Historically it is supposed to end at 6:00PM, but of course there will always be some laggards who just don't care that someone is going shopping or dinner. But the vast majority will stop at 6. only time i see trouble during songkran is with clowns who don't stop throwing water at 6pm or around the time the sun is setting.
April 10, 201411 yr If I don't want to get wet, I don't go out till at least 8 PM, but I am right by Thapae Gate.
April 10, 201411 yr <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script> Someone should explain it to the thai brains(mission impossible) that Songkran used to be a beautiful celebration but it has become an act of idiocy. The cops already banned the shooting of ice cold water and other retarded things incl the usage of pickups to splash water on everything that moves causing accidents etc but nothing works. Being dumb seems to be more important than anything else.Sent from my GT-I9500 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Actually Sonkrans been crazy for a long time as this picture shows. More pictures on this link to show that it has been this way for a while. http://library.cmu.ac.th/ntic/en_picturelanna/picture_trails_cate.php?page=3&cate_id=15
April 10, 201411 yr Yeah, 6 is a bit pessimistic. I wouldn't start the evening night out before 8pm and even then you need to be a little careful anywhere where there are Farangs. (Loy Kroh/Thapae specifically) But by 7 almost everyone is going home.

(Loy Kroh/Thapae specifically) But by 7 almost everyone is going home. i'd still keep the wallet and telephone in a zip-lock bag in the evenings. it only takes 1 <removed>. 2 years ago, day-after-day of high pressure water at point blank range being forced into my eyes tested my limit. last year i wore safety glasses, so some asrehole made his objective to get that high pressure water up under my glasses, we ended up boxing on. i'm on a plane out of thailand tomorrow morning, back on monday. hope to still have a splash but also hope to miss the peak madness.
April 10, 201411 yr Author Well, it did start today, with isolated pockets of water throwers... I managed to avoid getting wet, but it was pure luck. Tomorrow I'll dress for it, and enjoy the madness!
April 10, 201411 yr is it likely to be a full on day of water palaver tomorrow then? i.e. use your ziplock bags and avoid the old city until at least 7pm etc?

I don't think it will be all out crazy tomorrow as a lot of people will still be working. I'd still have my phone and things protected though.
April 10, 201411 yr is it likely to be a full on day of water palaver tomorrow then? i.e. use your ziplock bags and avoid the old city until at least 7pm etc? I am guessing that it will start in earnest in the afternoon, but I have switched into my Songkran duds already, just in case.
April 10, 201411 yr Author I'll empty my pockets, have my money, camera, and phone in a plastic bag, and walk the streets enjoying the holiday. If I keep away from the farang hangouts, it will just be water thrown or splashed and lots of laughing. I enjoy a day or two of Songkran madness. Then I can retreat into a well-stocked apartment for the rest of the holiday, read a good book and watch a good movie. Nice way to spend a weekend!
April 10, 201411 yr Actually it started today. They already try to get you wet around thapae. Some dumb kids did it so I was riding on the pavement to run them over but they jumped out of the away. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
