DSI To Probe Suthep's 'People Coup' Speech

Anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban gives speech to demonstrators with a cardboard cutout of his likeness in the foreground, 5 April 2014

BANGKOK: -- The Division of Special Investigation (DSI) will seek legal action against anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban for publicly vowing to launch a "People's Coup" against the government.

DSI Chief Tharit Pengdith said the officials are already transcribing the footage of 5 April rally organised by the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD) in which its sec-gen, Mr. Suthep Thaugsuban, delivered a fiery speech concerning his plan to overthrow the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Mr. Suthep has said he would install himself as a "Sovereign Body" and present his own list of Prime Minister and Cabinet members to His Majesty the King to seek his Royal Approval. The PCAD will establish unelected legislative bodies afterwards, he explained, and implement series of "reforms" in Thailand.

He called his effort a coup by the people, as opposed to coups launched by the military in the past.

According to Mr. Tharit, Mr. Suthep's speech risks violating Article 113 of the Criminal Codes, which prohibits any attempt to illegally overthrow democratic regime either by violence or by coercion.

"It is clear that Mr. Suthep's speech to the demonstrators reveals his intention to overthrow democratic regime," Mr. Tharit explained.

He added that the remarks will be used as evidence against Mr. Suthep in the court; the protest leader is already facing a separate charge of insurgency filed by the authorities.

The DSI will also consult with the Centre for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) to seek legal guidance on how to further prosecute Mr. Suthep for his speech, Mr. Tharit said.

Tharits day of reckoning will come... Something between the two extremes of Thaksin government and pdrc needs to be done. Personally I think the army should have stepped in my now but then the head of the army seems to only be worried about retiring with an unblemished record?

The DSI would be better employed in seeking out the grenade throwing child killers !

Since PT became the government, the DSI has never investigated anything related to PT/Thaksin/Redskirts etc. Nothing at all. But the Red shirts don't see this as injustice.

They are doing something similar. They are probing people that blew a whistle at Thaksin's ex- wife. bah.gif

Something between the two extremes is called an election. Let the people's voice be heard - it's about time, isn't it?

What took them so long he made is mad max speech on Saturday.

Had to happen as Tarit's been quiet recently and Chalerm's been getting all the headlines.

Bet DSI won't bother with any of Jatuporn's inflammatory remarks, afet all there's no double standards.

What took them so long he made is mad max speech on Saturday.

Did he actually say what khaosod reported though?

On another note, how is tarit's own dodgy land deal case going?

The DSI are still trying to get him on the same old charges that they already attempted several times already.

Another interesting Khaosod article.

They are still the only idiots publishing this junk based on their equally junk article yesterday.

If they want to push the envelope it is up to them, but when they join forces with the DSI who are going to be one of the first organisation to be taken out, they all may actually find themselves in court for defamation.

Khaosod now seem to be resigned to the fact that they are to be closed down in the next month, and seem to be doing all they can to fight it.

No, Khaosod out and out lied in their "reporting".

Suthep needs to shut his mouth. He's handing the reds all the evidence they need to start a civil war. They've been waiting for a coup or neo-coup for ages. All the same, if he did pull a coup off the first favour he can do the country is arrest Tarit and detain him indefinitely.

That makes more sense than the article did.

It can't be hard to prove if he said this stuff or not, If not then let the law close on Khaosod and punish them for it, but if he did say something he should not have then the same fate should apply, fair enough, But hey Mark really doesn't like an open media now dose he, what's that freedom of the press,,, you have to be joking if it's not in my favor, he proved that in 2010 huh,

So all of those Suthep fans who were so vociferous in claiming Suthep has no interest in putting himself in power, what do you have to say now after this speech? <Mr. Suthep has said he would install himself as a "Sovereign Body" and present his own list of Prime Minister and Cabinet members to His Majesty the King to seek his Royal Approval. The PCAD will establish unelected legislative bodies afterwards, he explained, and implement series of "reforms" in Thailand.>

That's democracy then is it? He's bonkers and the cause of a lot of needless violence and deaths.

Its far more democratic than having members of the Shinawatra clan hand picked by one sad old fugitive in Arabia

It has already been established in the other Khaosod thread that it was bullshit.

Several posters had already watched the speech and confirmed that it contained none of this rubbish, and a link was also posted to a video of the speech that brought in even more confirmations.

The DSI will have seen the speech themselves which means that they probably not even investigating it and this is yet another attempt at Khaosod, (which we all know is openly funded by Thaksin) at undermining the PDRC on the command of the man in Dubai.

I actually feel sorry for them, because once Thaksin's puppets have lost all control, Khaosod will be left to take the rap... But then again,... when you shake hands with the devil.

Still waiting for more details from other newspapers.

Mind you, if k. Suthep mentions H.M. the King much more we'll have a problem as mods take forum rules rather strictly wink.png

How can you say that? Were they or were they not duly elected by the populace? Part of democracy is freedom to vote unhindered, right? Unlike your hero Suthep who wants the exact opposite of democracy and the freedom to vote unhindered (or otherwise)

about as much sense as you believing him

Looking through the Thai language press, including Khaosot, seems the only thing new from Suthep's mouth is the use of a word, being translated "sovereignty", that has historically been used to justify military coups. I.e. the sovereignty of the people over the government.

Of course. Now Tarit doesn't decide which cases to take up and which to ignore - there is supposed to be a process for that. whistling.gif

Interesting that PTP caretaker Ministers and red undemocratic appointed leaders can openly applaud the murder of innocent children and call for armed rebellion and treasonable sedition by calling for a breakaway state; openly incite people to ignore the law and indeed be ready to fight against court decisions they don't like (nothing to do with right/wrong, evidence or justice) and in some cases break their bail conditions openly and often.

Tarit doesn't bother with minor stuff like that. He's busy probing into those awful people who dared to blow a whistle near the vastly wealthy ex wife of Thaksin.

No double standards here. Just another example of the fascist police state the Shin would love to create. As long as they're in charge of course.

And Poo is just so worried she's not allowed to call witnesses galore delay, and delay and delay the NACC.

Suthep will never be my hero.

Your acceptance of the Shinawatra family shows your lack of values.

They just figured this out now? Congratulations Sherlock! He has been talking about this publicly for how many months now? Yes, he wants to overthrow the democratic regime. Besides him saying it over and over again, didn't him having YL dissolve the house and then sabotaging elections give you a clue?

Voting unhindered also means being able to cast a vote without fear or favour such as the local canvasser or kamnan telling you who you must vote for. It also means that candidates will be able to promote themselves without being chased out of town or for voters to meet & listen with any candidate without being harassed & threatened.
