June 8, 200619 yr Top Gun Dumb and Dumber Trainspotting Dawn of Dead (remake) The Last Samurai Land of the Dead Hostel Cabin Fever Evil Dead Trilogy
June 8, 200619 yr Carlito's Way Body Double ( M.Griffith is so hot in this movie ..yum yum) The Secret Garden Year of the Dragon Black Hawk Down The Colour Purple Duel Any movie starring Gary Oldman (I really mean it, a couple are not so great but this is the best actor alive hands down :True Romance and Leon his best interpretations IMHO)
June 8, 200619 yr The Treasure of the Sierra Madre The Seven Samurai The Godfather 'nuff said; you don't even haveta mention actors or directors to know who they are, an' the OP only wanted the top three... (buncha wussies...spillin' yer underdeveloped cinema appreciation on an adult forum...)
June 8, 200619 yr am I the only one to notice?...that there are few female leads or themes in the the above discussion... is our selection of all time great movies to be disqualified on general principles as there may be no woman type influenced selection available? Are womaned themed movies and triumphant female performances to be ignored? I like Claudette Colbert, Ida Lupino, Vivien Leigh, Bette Davis and the raft of women film people from the end of WWII to the present, serious artists and not just bimbos...what of their contribution? Are we to debase ourselves by not acknowleging the woman's contribution... (I ain't no one to talk...my favorite films above ain't got no female leads...Walter Huston in Treasure when confronted by lonely pardners dreaming about pu**y out in the wild he says 'better not ta think about women...it ain't good for yer health...'
June 8, 200619 yr Sorry, I forgot to recommend something to the OP. The one necessity to have in any film collection must be two of the greatest films ever made. They are Godfather l & ll. AGREED! Outside of the above two best movies EVER, here's my three: Shawshank Redemption Pulp Fiction Jungle Book

June 9, 200619 yr Do you guys really rate The Godfather or are you just jumping on the 'I have no idea about Film so I'll say The Godfather is best because everyone in FHM says so' bandwagon? The Godfather is a truly ordinary film but Lads Mags like it so everyone else does..... Now, Goodfellas....that IS a film!!!!
June 9, 200619 yr Since someone mentioned that there were few movies with female leads mentioned I will post three that I like (disclaimer: not to everyone's taste of course). I realize these are rather lame choices but any of my top three have been mentioned already. Sleepless in Seattle (Meg Ryan) Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts) So Close (Qi Shui) Flight of the Phoenix (original) Hotel Rwanda

Now, Goodfellas....that IS a film!!!! The Godfather movies are classic cases of fine cinema and were a huge influence on today's filmmakers. There is no jumping on any bandwagon for me PF, I have loved the Godfather movies for a long time and will continue to do so.

June 9, 200619 yr I would also like to add "V for Vendetta", some would compare it to a Superman, Batman kind of movie. In fact, it's more than that, it points out the result of manipulation and chaos, I'm sure J.W. Bush hates it, the action is great and the ideea is better
June 19, 200619 yr Armageddon (spelling???) So you rate Armageddon as a "great movie" yet have never seen The Godfather..!!! Oh dear, back to film school for you my friend! Armageddon...? i've seen armaggddon about 4 times and i love it. i have to hold back the tears when b.willis gives the goodbye speech to liv tylor (who is majorly hot for a farang chick!) my top films are: terminator 1 and 2 braveheart alien 1 (but 2 and 4 are good) gladitor i saw 'match point' recently which was pretty good. 'raise the red lantern' is a great chinese flick with the awesom gung li i'm one of the minority that thinks the godfarther is overrated.

June 19, 200619 yr If I was you, I'd buy son concert DVD's of bands you like. Nothing better than to see a "Live" concert in the comfort of your home and will take away you blues as well. Just a good suggestion.
