April 15, 201412 yr I made an agoda booking for songkran for a beach holiday with the lovely lady and now in small spot of bother. The ocean views from our beach bungalow are complete blocked by palm throngs (ie the branches from the palm tree). Being a logical guy I moved a few of the big ones out of the way and broke 3 others to improve the view. It worked. However, someone saw me do this and now the crazy manager wants cash or she will call the police. We overheard this whilst having afternoon snooze (she was out the front bitching about it). The hotel folder indicates that this woman runs a strict operation. Theres a full A4 page of 'Hotel rules' ranging from no gambling, no picnics, no noise etc etc. Turning the page over there is another A4 page entitled 'Penalty rates' with 24 fines and the amounts (picnic fine is 2000 baht!). It is duly noted there is no fine for breaking a palm throng branch. I wonder how much I am going to have to pay. Because she is thai she is too daft to think about the effect of bad hotel reviews.... Also, all monies have been paid direct to Agoda and my visa card has now been cancelled. Any opinions apart from the fact that I know I will have to be calm and apologise.
April 15, 201412 yr Popular Post Geez, no disrespect intended but don't be a Pratt, go and apologise and pay restitution sheesh what is it going to cost you (rhetorical question). Honestly, who are you to roll in and start "landscaping"? Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand
April 15, 201412 yr Popular Post No sympathy for you here. You admit to wrecking the palm tree and expect you can just brush it off because you are a tourist? Ask yourself, if you did the same thing in a hotel in your country what do you think would happen. If you get away with it by just paying for it I would count that as lucky. Oz
April 15, 201412 yr Yep, tis a 10k plus fine here eh Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

April 15, 201412 yr Popular Post Hacking someone else's plants, just pay up. Still could be worse......gardening without a work permit...... arrest, incarceration, fine plus deportation.
April 15, 201412 yr Popular Post With all due respect I disagree Mary, that isn't the point Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand So, what is the point? OP booked a sea-view room, with obviously a little help from his side to make that come true. The owner lied about this, when advertised. While making your own landscaping isnt the best solution, i would bet the house the owner wouldnt want to give discount/refund due her misquiding advertising. (What would you think if instead of a jaccuzzi you find a tub?, would you think it is right when you paid for jaccuzzi?...that sea-view came with extra price, for sure!) I would say you bring the police on, let them know that the owner lie about the place, and threatening you about a f.cking tree. Not that OP cut the whole thing, anyway.
April 15, 201412 yr I must agree , it is an attitudinal thing and beggars belief although I must be almost delusional to think so.Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand
April 15, 201412 yr Is the resort in a national park? If it is, it might not be her tree, but she could be liable for it? I don't know why you felt the urge to do some gardening just for a sea view.
April 15, 201412 yr Popular Post OP could have asked before taking matters into his own hands. Yermanee
April 15, 201412 yr Popular Post Why didn't the OP just ask at the front desk for them to send around someone from the maintenance crew to trim the trees to improve the view? He really shouldn't be doing work on his holiday, should he? Would he have rolled up his sleeves and cleaned the pool if he'd found it dirty? Edited April 15, 201412 yr by NancyL
April 15, 201412 yr Popular Post Taking some fronds off of a palm tree....ooooh....uber scary thoughts from the TV members with not much back bone.
April 15, 201412 yr if you were seen vandalising the foliage at a hotel in your own country would you expect to be held to account? if you saw someone, a thai possibly, vandalising foliage at a hotel you were staying at in your home country would you expect the management to take action? restitution should of course be 'appropriate' to the damage done and a suitable apology given.
April 15, 201412 yr Taking some fronds off of a palm tree....ooooh....uber scary thoughts from the TV members with not much back bone. I agree it's very childish, but legally, he has damaged hotel property, although it's more severe, if the OP had cut the legs off a hotel coffee table because it was too high, then the same logic has to apply, damage of hotel property.
April 15, 201412 yr Popular Post Leave them leaves alone mistah, they never dang hurt no body. Tell the idiot to call the police. Also add that one of the leaves blew in and hit you in the eye, the doctor's fee was 20k baht. You'll accept cash.
April 15, 201412 yr Whilst not being a registered barrister (thus not qualified to administer advice pro bono) I suspect you could be in for a spot of bother. You might be wise to consult of one of the (outstanding) legal firms which are conveniently advertised here on Thai Visa... edit: Or alternatively, you could consult the new forum recently introduced on the website you are now viewing--"Ask the Lawyer" Myself, I'd be more inclined to 'Better Call Saul' Edited April 15, 201412 yr by cloghead
April 15, 201412 yr OP, you have a nice bungalow on the beach with a lovely lady and you start doing some gardening? I think you don't have your priorities in order. Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

April 15, 201412 yr Hmmm guessing the comments on this topic are not what OP expected.........he is very quiet.... The hallmarks of a troll, or stupidity, or being a stupid troll. April 15, 201412 yr So you purposely damaged the hotels property and you do not think you should be held accountable for it. WOW.... with an attitude like that can I guess your nationality has a red white and blue flag ? Edited April 15, 201412 yr by Spoonman

Only a tree... doesn't matter if it was only a brick. That goes for all you twits who liked her post as well... Oz
