Maejo Man
I asked the question of "which him" to the poster. How can you assume to know which "Him" and on what basis are you attacking Morris. It was Morris and many other bar owner/property renters who were ripped off by Yoshie. Please substantiate your comment or withdraw it.I just wonder who this might be referring to Well I was the poster, and I was refering to the latter also. I have known JBG for half a life time, and he is of the same opinion, that the man had a lousy disposition apart from many other failings, which are not for forum discussion, but then again we are all entitled to our own opinions......... I'd have to disagree, I knew Morris for a long time and he never did me a bad turn. I particularly enjoyed his attempt to run a wet T shirt competition at the Up to U. I don't know who Maejo Man and JBG actually are so I can't comment on the basis of your opinions. Edited November 28, 2006 by lamphun
svenivan
We were a couple of people that went to O'Malleys yesterday evening. I still don't understand what is wrong with that place! We ordered one Kilkenney and one Guiness and they were served within two minutes. Later we had coffee and Dark Sambucas and served almost with a smile. Maybe we farmers coming to town a couple of times a year are a little more charming than you cityslickers?
realthaideal
"... and O'Malley's has staff with an "attitude" problem." Wow ! I thought it was just me. I went early with another American to meet my 2 Irish buddies there who suggested it as a meeting point. Man were they unfriendly! And then I was ignored. THought I was mistaken for a tourist vs. a local, or maybe they were that way because I wasn't from Ireland, UK, Scotland, etc. I haven't been back since that experioence 2 years ago. If they don't want my business, and to treat me well that's fine. Although it's deep in tourists all the time, the UN Irish Pub does me just fine. The beer is good, prices alright. Food is just fine, especially holiday specials. And it gets a good blend of expat's from the isles, and expats from parts all over feel just as welcomed there. Good music, sports, and trivia nights too.

Banyai
Went to O'Malleys once - and didn't even stay for a drink they were so rude. The last time I was there, and I mean the last time, I waited 10 minutes to be served, In a far distant time I used to travel round the world. One night I finished up in a restaurant in Hamburg. I sat there reading my book waiting to be served. After about 10 minutes a waitress came over to my table and said, in English, "you're English, aren't you"? I replied "yes, how did you know"? She told me that if I'd been German and had been forced to wait 10 minutes to be served I'd had destroyed the restaurant around me - which just goes to show that jai yen yen isn't confined to Khon Thai Yes i agree the service is the worst in thailand......and with all the smoke I give It a BIG THUMBS DOWN. Will not go back!

miltonbentley
Well spotted Gonzo. I noticed things were lagging but as the last poster nbefore your goodself felt unable to act. I am glad you rescued this invaluable thread. Incidentally what is the record for a thread. Has this broken the CM record for most posts or most views? What's the whole forum record and can we have a shot at it? Afterall there can be few more pressing matters in Thailand than the goings on at the Red Lion and O'Malleys

Afterall there can be few more pressing matters in Thailand than the goings on at the Red Lion and O'Malleys Nah mate, this thread is a mere babby when compared with the likes of 'Rain' and the 'Last Word' et al... take a while to catch them. Those must be around the 200-page mark by now and then there is the unforgettable 'Ass' thread in B... going on 50-odd. O'Malleys is still a big one-up from the Red Lion. Was in there a few weeks back and although one or two of the staff weren't great, the atmosphere was nearly there. Red Lion needs a total revamp and a sifting of its staid clientelle. I hear there's a quality establishment opening up in the not too distant future to rival these average drinking holes.

meadish_sweetball
The sense of 'construe' I was using: b : to understand usually in a particular way : explain the sense or intention of often to one's own satisfaction or according to or in conformity with a given set of circumstances *construe an action as one pleases* *energy could be construed as something subsidiary to matter A.N.Whitehead* I should have said *If somebody can be bothered to dig up the posts in here that could be construed as "defamation", I'll be happy to remove them*

Dude, if Blinky wound me up, why would I compliment him so? . . . . . meadish_sweetball
Where can I buy a new tele (or where is the best place)...Where can I get a large refrigerator... Or where is the best place to get my Mazda serviced... Or where can I (or where is the best place) to get my car air-con serviced... The list is endless as every reader of the forum well knows, and yet it cannot be stated as to where one can buy Beer Lao. Ok, I'll say it again to make sure the point comes through: If you have the info to state where it can be bought, feel free.

The contact for beer Lao is Panpaporn on 0860954417 at 895 a crate. Since this is the Red Lion/Omalley threadcan we reopen the Beer Lao availability threadand put this info there. I am not being cheecky or funny, I just think it would make more sense for those not involved in the recent Beer Lao "discussions".
