Psoriatic arthritis

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any experience of this.. I have psoriatic arthritis and the biggest problem with it is my left hand has swollen up and is very painful. Now I'm 45 years old but 15 years ago the same thing happened and a doctor in a London hospital gave me a jab on the hand I think it was liquid gold/ steroid/ hydrocortisone etc... it was amazing i went back to my engineering job about 3 days later and never had any real pain in the hand until recently. now I've been to a few doctors, 1 in Samui and 1 in Bangkok but they seem very reluctant to offer similar treatment only anti inflammation pills which just aren't strong or effective. So my question is if anyone has had a similar jab at a clinic or hospital in Thailand?

I suspect the doctors you saw were not rheumatologists, which is what you need.

Try this doctor at Bumrungrad: http://www.bumrungrad.com/doctors/Virat-Pinyopornpanit

He may or may not want to give a steroid injection, but there are also other medications besides NSAIDs that can be used. For a good overview of this condition see:

hi ya Johnny, i see it was a while back you posted this, not sure your still around, but i have lived with both diseases for a long time . have you found any treatments recently ?

dave

On the nutritional side you might want to look into curcumin and black pepper. Curcumin, is supoosed to have anti-inflammtory properties, and black pepper can increase the bioflavibility of curcumin. You can buy supplements of curcumin in most pharamcies if you don't want to add the powder to meals- cheap too. Plus black pepper is obviously easy to find :)

Google it for more info, e.g.

http://www.turmericforhealth.com/turmeric-benefits/health-benefits-of-black-pepper-and-turmeric

May not be a total cure, but worth a try to see if it helps. With all these things the more solutions you might be able to use that help a bit, the better...

Cheers

Fletch :)

Hi Fletch, different things work for different people, but its worth a try for sure , better than suffering from bad side affects from some modern drugs.

any updates on psoriatic athritus? i think im just starting to develop it in my end knuckles which is quite depressing as i know its a chronic and destructive type if left alone. would medications halt this? im reluctant to take medications for the rest of my life daily tbh

This is not something you can self diagnose. In  particular you cannot yourself distinguish psoriatic arthritis from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. For that matter sometimes gout is confused with this other problems.

There is no getting around the need to see a rheumatologist for proper diagnosis and until the condition has been professionally diagnosed, impossible to discuss treatment options.
