BANGKOK, April 21 – The Commerce Ministry has called on Thai private sector to build up the brand of Thai chicken for export to the same level as the widely-accepted “Aussie Beef.”

Nantawan Sakuntanak, director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said Thai exporters of fresh and processed chicken should continuously promote and create understanding on the taste, quality and safety of Thai products among foreign consumers.

If possible, a Thai brand similar to Aussie Beef should be created for foreign markets, she said.

Thailand is a major world producer of chicken, she said.

Japan's lifting its ban on import of poultry from Thailand last December contributed to rising supplies from the kingdom being available, particularly during the recent poultry shortage in Japan due to the bird flu pandemic, she said.

Phatai Sooksommai, director of Thailand's Foreign Trade Office in Tokyo, said the retail and non-manufacturing sectors have extensively expanded.

Operators of three major convenience store chains in Japan plan an increase of 4,500 outlets this year and 4,800 outlets next year, he said.

The non-manufacturing sector in Japan represented 60 per cent of the total investment last year which saw a 9.7 per cent growth from 2012, he said, while the value of non-manufacturing investment was 5.67 trillion yen and manufacturing investment 3.68 trillion yen in 2012.

He said the increase of the value added tax, starting early this month, has impacted household consumption and it may consequently affect the non-manufacturing sector which is the driving force for investment in Japan. (MCOT online news)

My money is on Thai Chicks.

my money is on staying vegetarian animal welfare very low down on the list of priorities over here..free range roaming around a field maybe in devon not ubonratchathani i suspect..

I wonder if they will pump their chickens full of hormones to make them fatter as they do in western countries? This will help promote lovely looking fat chickens and reduce male fertility even moreso.

But Thai chickens are banned in most European countries, for reason of the chemicals used in their feeding. CP, the biggest Thai chicken exporter, is banned in most European countries.

they could call the chickens "thai face, the chickens with no balls" seeing it would describe a larger part of the males here, they only seem to act tough when there are more than 10 of them beating up on 1 person....

Thai Chicken - Aussie Beef.

Another Cock & Bull article.

Not a good idea.

Thai chicken does not have a good reputation abroad since their breasts were found to be unnaturally pumped up. I can't imagine where they got that idea from. smile.png

Far better to keep it under the radar as bog standard chicken.

Give it time, some politician will soon declare Thailand the "Chicken Hub".

Their logo might be a sneezing chicken, perhaps ? rolleyes.gif

I thought the ban was do to fear of bird flu and was lifted years ago ... http://www.globalmeatnews.com/Industry-Markets/EU-lifting-of-Thai-raw-chicken-ban-to-affect-world-trade

Quality beef with flavour takes breeding, care, attention and good handling.

How does that equate to battery chickens?

"Thailand is a major world producer of chicken, she said"....surprising no HUBS was used.

There is no ban on import of chicken meat from Thailand, but there is only 1 exporter who's chicken meat is up to the standard set by the EU, and it isn't CP.

Interesting they report financial figures, c.f. Japan, and it's requirements.... but not numbers of chickens produced.

Batteries are going to be crushed even more to meet demand, and the current poor standard is simply going to drop much lower.

How these guys think they can replicate Western standards is beyond me, when they're talking about huge numbers.

This is an article about "brand" British chickens.... and if anybody has ever tasted a Phil Truin chicken.. they'd know what 'brand' means.

Thais involved with this are having a laugh to compare to Aussie beef. They could name it Aberdeen Nakhon Chicknus?

Or copy a few logo, and change the pic to a fattened chicken, with the words "Prime Aberdut Nakhon Chicknus"..watch out for in-store soon.

I thought Thai Chicks is already a very well known export.

Thai chicken is well recognized for its low quality.

While Aussie beef is well known for the good quality.

Check some CP factories and close them....there will be enough there to do it.

But perhaps those would at least come with four legs, not the regular two ? laugh.png

Yay for genetically-modified 'Hom Mali Chickens' ! rolleyes.gif

Corn-fed (well, OK, two-year-old rotting rice - fed) and yummy, straight from the freezer, to the consumers' microwaves ! clap2.gif

I feel healthier, if less-wealthier, already ! wink.png

Interesting because the report mentioned in the above link lifting the EU ban says Thai Chicken Industry enjoys both good quality and reputation.

Yes... so if not CP, then what company is it?

Well done (your comments and hopefully the chicken)

There is nothing wrong with Thai chicken, its just very hard to make something premium out of mass production. I've been in a couple of CP factories. They were OK, bur smelly waste water. Laemthong was something else. Truly, something else.

they can make a new brand / menu

thai hormone chicken with molded rice
