I was lucky enough to stay in Ao Nang before it became a horrible tourist hell hole. Loved Railay, and spent many holidays there. Stopped going because I preferred NE Phangan. I also stayed on P P long before it became "too cool". Last time I went was after the tsunami, but they were rebuilding the same <deleted> it was before the tsunami ( as with Patong ). Greed never learns. I never got to Khao Lak before the tsunami, and after, the stories about the rich people stealing the resorts put me off going. IMO I had the best of Thai beaches on NE Phangan, as no airport to allow the flashpackers easy access- IMO flashpackers were the death knell of every once great beach they contaminated. -
