BANGKOK: -- Tropical storms wreaked havoc to many northern and northern provinces yesterday damaging several hundreds of homes and blacking out large areas.

In Nakhon Phanom province, local authorities said the storm that struck the province was believed the worst in 10 years.

It swept through Nakhon Phanom province, forcing authorities to issue storm warnings.

Nakhon Phanom governor Adisak Thepeat ordered all relevant agencies to accelerate assistance for all storm victims.

He said it was the biggest storm in 10 years to ravage Nam Kam sub-district destroying at least 70 houses in the area.

Meanwhile, in Lampang province, provincial authorities distributed roofing tiles and other building materials to 300 families whose houses were damaged by a heavy summer storm.

Even though residents had been given advanced warnings, the damage was still inevitable.

The storm also caused a major power blackout in Phrae province after strong winds took down a main power line.

we have had 5 big storms here wichianburi, Petchabun province, strangley though since the met office issued it's current warning nothing,i enjoy a good downpour, and lightning thunder, and the fact the temps drop rapidly,as it has been around 40c most days here for weeks etc,but these winds gusts are the down side, and we lost power the other night, for a few hours, still it livens things up a bit.

We were without electricity for about 1 hour last night, at Ban Phai near KK.

Nearly died without air condition and not able to have a shower as the pump wasn't working.

Judging from the picture above, it wouldn't take a storm to dismantle that house.

Just after i posted a huge rumble of thunder, storm looks to be heading our way,and Costas agree about the house in the photo, over the road from us is what i can only describe as a collection of ramshackle huts,i often worry about parts of their roofs coming off and coming in our direction, can only keep the fingers crossed i suppose. Also the problem with our house is concrete block construct holds the heat well into the evening, and like you when the power went off the other night it was far hotter inside than out,but to many mossies to stay outside for too long, but house did look nice with all the candles.

We have has bugger all rain here in Uttaradit province, a good breeze and lightening flashes and thats it.

A 7000 BTH generator could take care of that problem :) I just seen one on bahtsold.com

Where are the other northern provinces??

Gents,

I am headed back stateside to a region of the country that never gets a good thunderstorm.

Would very much like to experience one more before I go but BKK has been dry since, what, October?

Where would you suggest the best storm activity is over the next few days?

Cheers

'It swept through Nakhon Phanom province, forcing authorities to issue storm warnings.'

You've got to love this statement. Surely having 'swept' through it's a little late to issue a warning.

Unfortunately nothing like that here in Surin, heat, a few rain drops and an air-con which has just broken down

I think the statement meant to warn other villages in the storms path, but hey! there is always someone who jumps in without thinking first

In the 10 years I have been here in Thailand, the few times power has gone off for any length of time, I will sit in the truck with the A/C on and read a book.

Doesn't look like a new house does it.

How many years do you think it has resisted the weather ?

Looks like only the roof has been damaged by the worst storm in 10 years.
