CAPO to seek arrest of 80 PDRC core members



BANGKOK: -- The Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO)will seek the arrest of some 80 key figures of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee on sedition charges early next month following the extension of the Internal Security Act in Bangkok and its suburbs, Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said Monday.

CAPO, he said, will propose the cabinet today to extend the enforcement of the ISA in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan and Lat Loom Kaew district of Pathum Thani for 30-60 days.

He expressed hope that the Criminal Court would issue arrest warrants for the PDRC’s 80 core members, including protest leader Suthep Thuagsuban, to be requested by CAPO tentatively on May 10.

The cabinet, he added, will be asked today to cut down on the number of army troops deployed to keep peace in Bangkok and areas covered by the ISA and to be replaced by police because the troops are more vulnerable to harassment or attacks by protest guards because they are not allowed to carry arms like the police.

Commenting on Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva’s political initiative to mediate peace talks among all political stakeholders in order to break the political deadlock, Mr Surapong said he did not trust Abhisit and did not expect anything from the Democrat leader.

He also suggested that Abhisit hold talks with protest leader Suthep Thaubsuban first before meeting with the other stakeholders.

Maybe they are two of the group of ladies that serve food and wine for him in his private workroom at the Royal Thai Police headquarters. There was a story covering this in another newspaper October, 2012.

Spoken as chief advisor of the CAPO or maybe as caretaker Dept. PM I assume? I mean as caretaker MoFA k. Surapong is used to inform foreign envoys and diplomats, and to those you never say 'do not trust'. More likely a 'ongoing investigation in the possibility to consider the value of certain expressions by the leader of one of the opposition parties'

Not sure if they actually mean business, as they cried wolf almost as many times as Suthep called for final pushes.

My guess is that they do not have a decision as such, more posturing in case they want to make a move, while at the same time sending signal to the Army. Wonder if bringing their own Suthep from Chiang Mai got something to do with it, as well. Remains to be seen how the Army will react, didn't seem too responsive to government's wishes during this conflict.

Having more firearms around will surely not contribute to the risk of conflagration.

Why do CAPO have to talk about it in the media that they are going to? Why not just grow a pair and do it?

Glad to see that while the caretaker PM welcomes Abhisits initiatives to find a solution the Dep PM says he doesn't trust him. Not very diplomatic coming from the minister for Foreign Affairs.

It is much more pleasant to look at the picture of the ladies when it could have been another image of the Mekon.

After some reds got arrested with weapons by a combined army police team it would seem best if they cut down on the army presence just in case it should happen again.

With the police on their own it would be much easier to ignore or help the reds and concentrate on anyone they think could be linked to the PDRC

What naivete.

If the Army doesn't cooperate with this government, what can the government do? They've shown themselves toothless without military support. How long have they sought arrest of PRDC members with nothing coming to fruition? The police can't do anything without military support and if they try, they know they'll just face another losing battle like the last time they tried going in. Face it, the police are only good at collection bribes and enriching themselves. This is real work and they're not going to risk their lives doing it.

What that actually means - is that it's all dependent on the Criminal Court again, hence Surapong's " hope " that the court will affirm his wish, a wish that will be " tentatively " requested on May 10. You can't get much firmer than that.

Yet again, Thaksin's cousin wants to get the army off the streets and replaced with Thaksin's police - to the surprise of absolutely no one. The previous attempt to do that failed miserably. As it will this time. The problem from Pheu Thai's point of view is that the army has done too good a job at protecting the protesters. The grenade attacks against the PDRC - though still ongoing - are at least now being contained to a greater degree as nets have been set up as well as other strategic initiatives of the army designed to protect the protesters, which is their job.

Thaksin's cousin doesn't trust Abhisit. Doesn't this statement yet again make Yingluck irrelevant ? She's on record as saying she'll " study " the proposal. Doesn't Thaksin's cousin realize he's a member of the same cabinet ?

CAPO is like the party from which is sprang - wanting to cling to power. All that lovely budget needs to be spent, used up, - without any accounting of course.

If CAPO was really interested in doing what they are supposed to do, then they would have ensured Suthep was arrested, along with anyone who has broken the law. That would include all those red shirt leaders and activists who openly committed treason calling for armed militias, the setting up of an independent country and inciting violence. Oh, Chalerm said they were just fooling around and enjoying themselves. Just like when they play at random shootings and lobbing grenades or monk bashing.

The only thing CAPO has been consistent with is in failing to arrest anyone. They never condemn anyone who does or says anything that happens to favor the pro-Thaksin camp.

They should be disbanded.

CAPO: We are now definitely tentatively searching to seek arrest warrants, but we are not so sure if we will actively request them or just imply through the grapevine that there is a need, or not. Furthermore, we are not quite ready yet to proceed with any possible or probable request and so some deliberation may be in order, but then again may be not. Also, we seem to have misplaced the information on where to request such a request, if such a request becomes necessary at all in the first place. Lastly, we all need a raise!

It's always such a treat to see how litle support and respect Yingluck has from her cabinet and party. So even if Abhisit and Yingluck meet and come to some common ground, I would expect the PTP and Caretaker Cabinet to oppose it.

Good to know that the government has no interest in finding a solution to the current situation other than removing anyone that disagrees with them.

Support is increasing in PDRC, the govt has sense it.

Old tactics out again. But i will say it does works when the arrest stuff is announced.

Some supporters will back down, understandable.

Regardless of the mess this country is in , if you want to see a bigger one, just do what the CAPO plan to do, madness at the extreme end of the scale and not contributing to any piece efforts what so ever.
