Hi, i am having this problem , and maybe some of you recognize it or know what causes it.

About every 3 to 4 weeks i am getting some sort of a cold/ virus. But it isn't really a cold. It feelslike it but I don't have a running nose and no headaches, but do have an infected throat and bones and muscles hurting very bad. Also a slightly higher temperature comes with it, but not the same as when i have an influenza virus and running high fever. The doctor just says virus and infection and keeps giving medicine. I am not even sure if the medicine is working, because this situation normally lasts a week and that would also be the time for the medicine to do the job properly. But sure it will do something.

I am asking myself where does this come from? And why does it come back regularly? is it a virus that is not killed properly and just goes on? is it some sort of a cold ( maybe from driving the bike sweaty?) although it does not feel like this due to the infected throath. Is it from drinking the water from the 1 bath a litre machine's?

Does anyone have this recuring situation too,or had it? Any clues or solutions?

Thanks so far

Most often these symptoms are caused by poor air quality and exposure to poorly maintained and cleaned air conditioners with resultant molds and fungal spores in the air and on bedsheets etc.

Symptoms much the same as with "Sick Building Syndrome".

In Bangkok, regular maintenance and cleaning of air conditioners in condos should be done at least 2 - 3 times per year. This time of year, just before the rainy season, usually worst.

I have read somewhere that most colds are not really colds but food poisoning such as salmonella, don't know how true it is but it is something worth considering.

I would suggest you consult a good ENT.

If sore throat present at the time of the consult, given the frequency of recurrence, might be wise to get a culture. Though it is quite possible it is just allergic in origin.

If you advise where you are living, might be able to suggest an ENT. It does not sound like the doctor you have been seeing has any idea what is wrong.

i live in buriram. was thinking already a culture would be good. only indeed dont jnow where to find a doctor to be able to really talk my problem over..

In Buriram, that is a problem.

Afraid I can't suggest any specific ENT in that area. I know that Bangkok Hospital Korat (and also most likely Ubon) has an ENT clinic but I have no info on the docs there and their website is only in Thai.

You might try first at the nearest army hospital, I expect there is one in or near Buriram, quality of care at thsoe is usually pretty good though English speaking is variable. Ask specifically for an ENT.

Or, can try pot luck at either N=Bangkok Hospital Korat or Udon.

If all that fails may have to come to Bkk where there are several really good ENTs to be found.

I would suggest in the meantime you try supplemental zinc, it has been proven to reduce the incident and severity of sore throats. Redoxan (all pharmacies) is an effervescent mix of zinc + Vit C. Or you may be able to find zinc lozenges somewhere. Take daily.

Hi .... troublesome, to say the least. I suggest you get a blood profile done and have a good look at the differential. Sometimes recurrent (chronic) conditions are indicative of deeper sub-clinial disorders, so don't take it lightly.

In the meantime, get hold of a good multivitamin with ginseng and trace minerals (like Proviton) , and find colloidal silver ... it kills all viruses and even works topically for cuts and sores to prevent infection. in addition, honey and cinnamon boost the immune system and are easy to get as well as turmeric.

You can make your own silver colloid. Battery charger plus two silver coins or spoons - 1 l clean water Xs 6-8 h then take 1 tsp daily till clear.

Good luck

This post was as closest to my own thoughts in all this. I have a huge lot of friends living here in Isaan, Thailand that experience a full day and night of feverlike conditon with acing body and muscles.... next day all back to normal again.

I have had this since 5 years back now. I did even got it when I went back for 7 months to Sweden (september-2013-april-2014). My own thought and I am not a doctor, is that I have been infected my some insect, cause I dare to suggest that this is a mild version of malaria... I believe that it cannot be cured so I just live with it.... One day every 2 months about, I feel shit, but next day OK again.....Little bit of painkillers that day and than it is over.

Just bare with it...

Malaria can be cured. One such medicine is atovaquone plus proguanil combination, traded as Malarone or Malanil. It is also a malaria prophylactic in lower doses. For malaria treatment/cure you take 4 tablets as a single dose for 3 days in a row. In Thailand you can only get it at the Thai Travel Clinic at Mahidol University Hospital of Tropical Diseases. Been there, done that.

For the OP, there's no need to suffer. Get a proper diagnosis done in Bangkok (Siriraj, Mahidol, or other University hospital. Or Bumrungrad or Bangkok Hospital, if you don't mind spending a bit more). There are too many possible reasons for your condition for you to rely on TV posters' guesswork.

Tv members are no doctors, true. Some good advice although never hurts. Suplements and vitamins are good for extra boost. The silver colloid i will skip though and just baring with this for years on doen't seem wise too. Best one was make an appointment with the ENT to get a culture,. Sometimes need someone else to tell you to see what was obvious all along. Will call Bangkok hospital in Pattaya to make a time. get a culture, blood tested and a lung picture.... Like some say, i do feel it is symptoms of an underlaying problem...

Thanks for the thoughts all. i appreciate it. will keep you informed, maybe it's helpfull for others once i know an outcome of the tests.

Be forewarned that Bangkok Pattaya Hosp is the most expensive of all the hospitals in that chain.

Hi Myluck

Lot of fever is around for sure. I also think a pandemic on the way with flu type symptoms.

I have just had another Holliday in the hospital with my broncle problems and meet 3 other falangs checking in, Khon Kaen. The heat is not normal for this time of the year. If you feel you need some antibiotic or other go to good pharmacy and discuss with the chemist they seem to know what to give. If you need a good antibiotic is Amoksiklav 1000 mg 1 every 12 hrs. They sort me out.

Posted

Years ago I had bad flu symptoms about once a month for many months that had major work ups. It was finally resolved when a urologist did a urethera look up and found a small pocket that collected bacteria and the mild infection gave me flu like symptoms of muscular aches and pains.

The fact that you have a very sore throat every time your "flu" comes on suggests you may have a recurring infecton somewhere in your nasal or throat passages that cause the flu like symptoms.

As Sheryl suggest, get a good ENT to do a full work up as there are many pasages in your head and throat that could be the breeding ground for an infection. Sinus drainage can cause sore throats as you know and the sore throat could be an mild infection that your body thows off after a few days.

I had a virus for about 5 weeks. You must take the full course of antibiotics. Do not stop taking them until they are gone. I realised early on that i must kill the germs in my house. I boiled water and poured it on the door handles. I wiped the switches with boiled water. I cleaned the telephones with medical alcohol. I poured boiling water on the water sprayer at the toilet and the toilet flush handle. I poured boiling water on the taps. Clean the bike handles. Pour scalding water on the gate latch and all locks. I warned the household to wash their hands regularly. Any surface commonly touched must be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Wash your hands more often than you usually do. The objective is not to just make all surfaces look clean but also to kill the germs.

My virus (which I decided from research was the swine flu) disappeared and within two weeks my daughters virus also disappeared. She likely brought the virus from school. If you have school age children discuss their sanitary practises at school. Provide them with a bottle of that hand cleanser on a regular basis.

In China I provided a large bottle of hand cleanser at the classroom door and regularly passed it around. Colds virtually disappeared and the children took notice and used it without prompting. 40% of germs are removed by wiping after washing with a towel. Have you seen disposable towels in Thailand or China ? Rare, very rare . Wash the towels in your home weekly.

This may seem a little bothersome but it only takes a few minutes /day but those viruses can just go on and on. In the case of my daughter and I, I was concerned it was going to lead to pneumonia as the persistent phlegm and chest coughing for an extended period was worrisome.

been in Bangkok some years ago, and the English skills of the specialist i met there were so terrible, that my unschooled wife had to translate his english into her english in order for me to understand. Furthermore he missed a pretty severe infection within the body completely. only because we were going to holland a few days later it got treated like it should. Don't know how thing would have turned out if he was te only one i visited. Not to good experience. Pattaya hospital, expensive yes, had the unfortunate pleasure of being there too ones but at least i had a doctor i could understand and who understood....

Everybody. Thanks for all the replies.

I have been to an ENT doctor . It turned out to be a pneumonia that slumbered on a bit to long , badly treated. I am on different medicine right now on this doctor's prescription. First treatment with antibiotics and other meds did not properly do the job, and now am on a different one for a longer period.

I am feeling better but still have some problems, but the treatment is not fifnished yet so to early to say.

I do a sanitation routine with water and dish soap. Your ideas sound good. In the US I can buy Clorox wipes but I haven't been able to find them here in LOS.

Congrats to the OP. I am glad you are feeling better.

What would be the best routine to sanitize surfaces in my condo?

Thank God for Thai Visa. Never a shortage of quasi-doctors giving advice and hand holding.

Actually, Omar Zaid is a real medical doctor.

This would be very strange advice if so. There is no evidence at all that ingesting colloidal silver does anything to treat ongoing viral infections in people, but a huge amount that indicates silver can be toxic.

In recent years a handful of papers have shown that carefully size controlled nanoparticles of silver can slow down the rate that some types of virus infect cells in a dish in the lab (and also can be toxic to the cells, if there's too much).

To go from this minimal evidence to advising people to drink silver if they have a viral infection is rash in the extreme. As is advising people to make a potentially toxic solution in a way that could result in almost any concentration and then drink it.

The web is full of people trying to sell colloidal silver by making ridiculous unproven claims. Avoid.

"In October 1996, the FDA proposed to ban the use of colloidal silver or silver salts in over-the-counter products [11]. A Final Rule banning such use was issued on August 17, 1999 and became effective September 16th. The rule applies to any nonprescription colloidal silver or silver salt product claimed to be effective in preventing or treating any disease [12]. Silver products can still be sold as "dietary supplements" provided that no health claims are made for them. During 2000, the FDA issued warnings to more than 20 companies whose Web sites were making illegal therapeutic claims for colloidal silver products.

In 2000, the Federal Court of Australia banned Vital Earth Company Pty Limited and its director Darryl John Jones from falsely representing that the colloidal silver produced by their "Vital Silver 3000 Zapper," "Vital Silver 2000 Automatic" and "Vital Silver 2000":

  • Can kill all disease-causing bacteria, fungi and virus within six minutes of contact"
