I want to print my own plastic business cards, can a cheap printer do this and does anyone know where I can buy the plastic sheets?

Certain inkjets can print on pretty thick media, such as CDRs. Your main concern will probably be finding plastic that is suitable for inkjet printing withing smearing/fading quickly. Cutting them up into business card size will also be tricky.

Moreover, it's so dirt cheap getting them printed in Thailand (just like with photos) - why would you want to?

I've already got the done in Pagemaker, it's more a time saving thing if I can just print them off.

Well it's up to you but I don't believe it's faster to fart around finding the right printing paper, making endless failed attempts, cutting the paper properly after, throwing half of the cards out due to misprints/miscuts/smeared prints, etc etc ... just take your file into one of the places making cards and have them take care of it while you do your shopping
