Nakhon Si Thammarat is preparing to install flood and drought warning system

Nakhon Si Thammarat (นครศรีธรรมราช ) Province is preparing to install flood and drought warning system in its ten risky locations.

At Nakhon Si Thammarat City Hall, the Deputy Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Ms. ARUNEE GULNARONG (อรุณี กูลณรงค์), chaired a meeting voicing his concern on flood and drought warning systems. Eradicating poverty in the province was also an issue considered as well.

She said that this meeting allowed every unit to express and exchange ideas with specialists from Walailak University assigned from provincial administrators to study about flood and drought warning system.

I think the Drought Warning system would be like the flood warning system. A serious of towers costing 10 million babt per tower.

Last November, Nakhon Si Thammarat was flooded.

The previous year we had nothing.

Thanks for posting those photos Gisele. We've been corresponding with NakhonSean and he told us about the flood. Looks like we will be arriving there in the middle of Monsoon season.

There are major flood warnings for september october and ever more so in november due to La Nina.

Majar flood warnings! We were planning to drive around there and other provinces in the south looking for a potential place(town/moo ban/house) to move into. Bad timing I guess. Hm...not sure what to do. Probably should wait until after the monsoon season.

Even though there are floods, it's not as if the whole country side is flooded.

Last November, I had to go out of my way to take the pictures of the flood in Nakhon because otherwise it was just from television or else I wouldn't have seen flooding at all.

I live in a gated community, there was no flood there and I go to the university every morning and the road wasn't flooded at all and the grounds at the unversity were not flooded.

There was lots a water at our farm but no flood damage

In Nakhon, the flood waters receded quickly, the damage to homes in some area was bad but that wasn't everywhere.

It's not as if there's a metre of water flooding the whole of the South at one time, some places were badly hit but mostly it's was just rain.

I understand there would not be a metre of water flooding the whole of the South at one time. Just thinking it might be inconvenient driving around with two kids looking for a house to rent in the rain and flood(if the area is flooded. Anyway, my husband could just go there by himself first and my kids and I can go to Malaysia and stay with my family until he finds a place for us to stay. Have a nice weekend Gisele.

Without addressing the damage done by the flooding but just the driving situation around Nakhon last year, it was really only a couple of times and only for a day that there was water over the roads.

Once the rain stopped, the water receded quickly from the main roads. It's the homes and sois in lower areas that were damaged the most. The newer roads are higher than the surrounding farm land and driving around was not a problem.

Everyday I drive about 30 km to the university and another 30km to our farm in the mountains and we never had a problem getting around.

My comment about 1 metre under water is because when people see the news about flooding (or any other problem about the South) they just think the worst. The media's job is to make it look the worst. Friends and family call or email so worried about me thinking my life is in imminent danger.

Last year, a friend from Samui called, she was very worried about me, she had seen the news on the television but really, there was loads of damage to roads and land slides in Samui so I thought it was a precarious situation there.

When I saw the news about the flooding in the North I thought they got hit the worst.

I love living here, it's paradise, even when it is wet.

This remind me to when we first told our family that my husband is going to do his research in South Thailand. They were so worried about the unrest there that we had to explain that it is only in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat and ensure them we will not go to these provinces.

So, how long have you been living in Nakhon? And in the mountain! Oh my...that's where I want to live .. (I wish). Last summer we spent about 2 weeks travelling around the south. We do like Nakhon Sithammarat. We bought some durians in a village up on the mountain. You travel quite far to the university. Which one is that? Wailalak?

I have been living in Nakhon for 2 years now, my husband is from ThaSaLa. We rent a house in Nakhon Si thammarat but our frog farm is between Sichon and ThaSaLa but in the mountain, it is gorgeous. We have land on the beach and we are planning to build in the coming year. I teach Drama, and Business courses like Biz and Social Etiquette, and Negotiations at Walailak University.

Gisele, my husband will be affiliated with Wailalak University. I can imagine the view you have up on the mountain. What kind of frogs are you raising? Sounds very exciting. Since this thread is about flood and we are not talking about flood, could I just pm you?
