PHUKET: Police believe they are closing in on Maung Myo, the second of the two men accused of beating French tourist Fabrice Boigeol to death in his sleep when they burgled his bungalow in Rawai on April 18.

Pol Col Sirisak Wasasiri told The Phuket News this morning, “We are certain that he is still in Thailand and he has run off to another province, because he keeps calling his mother.

“We had already interviewed all of the Burmese witnesses so we do not have to go looking for them after we catch Maung.”

The Superintendent of Phuket Town Police Station, Pol Col Santi Chainiramai, told The Phuket News, “We are still looking for Maung Myo. The first man we arrested for the murder, Shwe Oo Dam, is currently in Phuket Provincial Prison.

“He is going through the legal process without waiting for the arrest of Maung, who is still on the run. What happens to Shwe will be up to the judge to decide.”

Shwe has admitted to the burglary but has blamed Maung for the killing, saying that Maung hit the sleeping Mr Boigeol on the head with a piece of wood.

Under Thai law, however, Shwe could still be sentenced to death for conspiracy to murder
