Just had a check up for enlarged prostate at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. Doctor says it's pretty much normal for my age (72) but he prescribed Tamulosin because of frequent nocturnal urination. None of my local pharmacies carry Tamulosin so I got one to order it in, but she didn't know the price. Anyone know? I do know it's not cheap.

Sirirat Hospital (Mahidol University) have a Thai web page with drug prices (รายการยาโรงพยาบาลศิริราช) listed at: http://www.si.mahidol.ac.th/th/department/pediatrics/admin/news_files/109_2_1.pdf

This is dated November 2010, so prices will have changed, but the cost is listed as Baht 39.50 for 0.4 mg tablet (see attached) so this may give you an idea. See also a related post at: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/212255-flomax-available-in-thailand/

Good luck - and get well!

PS: Does anybody else know of another Thai drug price listing on the web? Would be something handy to check before buying....

40 BHT or about 35 USD in the US for .4mg x 30 as I take it as well.

1200 BHT seems very expensive.

i was just calculating 40 baht X 30 days = 1200 baht = US$37.00. I have to pay whatever it costs if I want to get a decent night sleep.

My mistake. I miscalculated the BHT vs. the USD

I've also found that once you've been taking the drug for a month or so, you can take it every other day.

Or at least I can although your results might vary.

Good luck.

Just picked up 30 tabs of Harnal 0.4 mg (Tamsulosin) that I had the pharmacy order in, cost 1500 baht (US$46), so it ain't cheap. Don't know how the average Thai would be able to afford these as there doesn't seem to be any cheap generic available. If they only cost around $30 for 30 in the US why are they so expensive here?

Tamsulosin is the generic for Flomax. And it probably cost more than it should if they had to order it. Not sure where you live, but I would imagine that most big pharmacies in larger cities would have it in stock and at a lesser cost, but that's just speculation.

I mentioned the other day that I took one pill a day for the first month then switched to one pill every other day without any noticeable difference.

If cost is an issue, it may be worth trying.

Good luck.

Has there been a noticeable difference in urinating since you started taking Harnal, and how long did it take before you got results?

Unfortunately there is no locally made brand of this drug in Thailand, and imports are always expensive.

If it gives good results I won't complain about the price.
