The Tim Walz thread.
He is an absolutely delightful man who has had a great deal of success in his lifetime and he makes both Trump and Vance look like very minor players and very average human beings. Walz’s constituents in Minnesota’s first district re-elected him, often by a considerable majority every two years. When he ran for governor in 2018, he came away with 53.9 percent of Minnesota’s vote – the largest margin a Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party candidate won by in more than 30 years. In 2022, he was re-elected with 52 percent of the vote. His re-elections are often tied to a respectable approval rating. A January 2024 approval rating poll, conducted by local Minnesota news outlet KAAL-TV, found that 55 percent of respondents thought Walz was doing a good job. But voters across the nation seem less passionate about Vance as a vice president candidate. Polling from NPR, PBS and Marist College found that Vance has a 33 percent disapproval rating – a drop from 28 percent when he was first made Trump’s running mate. FiveThirtyEight, which compiles polling from across the nation and creates an average, puts Vance at a 40.6 percent unfavorable rating. He will present his Republican counterpart, JD Vance, with a gratifyingly large problem. That problem is one of authenticity, one of the major absurdist planks of Trump’s campaign, in which the scion of a New York real estate empire accuses his rivals of being “east-coast elites”. Walz, unlike almost every other high-profile Democrat going back decades – including Hillary Clinton’s affable and somewhat Walz-like 2016 running mate, Tim Kaine – is not a lawyer. He did not go to Harvard or Yale, a fact he is proving happy to weaponise. If Walz has the energy of a dad reminding his grown-up kids to stay hydrated, he is also, on the evidence of the first day of campaigning, still very much the high school coach running the cafeteria at lunchtime, using all the modes – sarcasm, booming aggression, sudden, sharp mockery – that traditionally keep feral adolescents in order. Walz said to the crowd in Philadelphia: “Like all regular people in America’s heartland, JD Vance studied at Yale, had his career funded by Silicon Valley billionaires, and wrote a bestseller trashing that community … COME ON!” He was named the ranking member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs in 2017. He focused on issues such as veterans’ mental health, suicide and pain management. He also called for funding to research medical cannabis treatment for veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain. Walz served 24 years in the Army National Guard before retiring from a field artillery battalion in 2005 as a command sergeant major, one of the military’s highest enlisted ranks. -

Nonbinary and Transgender Nikki Hiltz in the Paris Olympics
So if I asked how old your wife is, you'd reply "They are xx years old" instead of "She is xx years old"? Very strange. When referring to a person that you know the sex of, he/she is both clearer and more accurate than they. But if you wish to reduce the clarity and accuracy of the English language in order to pursue some 'progressive' woke agenda, don't let me stop you. Seems more regressive than progressive to me, but that seems to be a trend of the left in recent years. -

Is a one-year, multi-entry marriage visa still available from HCMC?
Now they've added seasoning? Absolute madness for a visa intended for people who don't live in Thailand and caused by those who abused it! -

School Van Accident in Northern Thailand Takes Young Student's Life
It looks more like a mobile hairdresser with that barber pole instead of a wing mirror, with a Thai flag left hand drive with no other wing mirror, it also looks hooked up to the electric. -

Latest developments and discussion of recent events in the Ukraine War
And that’s a big problem, no? For the life of me, I’m not sure how WWIII sounds like a good plan to anyone. And yet that’s the warmonger dream scenario. America would be gone, Europe would be gone. Russia would be gone. -

urgent kor ror 2
Thanks everyone. This morning I woke up and fainted. I had vertigo for over 2 hours. I never experienced anything like this. Arrived at immigration around 1:30pm after getting kr2 and bank letter with no appointment. Its 3:30pm right now and it is all done. Time to check my sugar levels methinks. Scary. -

Pattaya police intervene to stop violence as Kuwaiti tourists clash
Constantly get into altercations and incidents requiring police presence (like racing scooters around all night) in a particular area of the city - meh. 200 baht fine and carry on. 4 days later, same thing - meh, 200 baht and carry on. 4 days later, similar thing - meh, (repeat as often as needed). But catch some 75 year old geezer that's been here 30 years but missed renewing his Extension and is on 1 or 2 days overstay ? Off to jail you go ! Blacklisted and deported ! You evil person ! You are ruining Thailand's good image ! (Remember that story from last year ? Some 70+ year old geezer living in Nakhon Nowhere gets a visit from the Elite "Smart Car" unit who find he's on overstay. Arrested on the spot and hauled off to jail. They never even let him close the front door to his house (judging by the open door seen in the photos as they were taking the old guy in cuffs to the police car). And if you don't have friends - or a lawyer's number in your wallet - you're basically screwed. I recall about 25 years ago when I was at a friend's bar on Walking Street. A group of police were coming down the street and one of the bargirls suddenly grabs her purse and flies out the back like her pants were on fire. Couple nights later I was talking to the mamasan and noticed the girl wasn't working. She said she'd been fired because she'd lied about her age - which is why she ran when she saw the cops. The mamasan said the girl was working at a different bar - "in the Allah area" as she called it. (The little corner area behind the Marine Hotel, in the little section along soi 16. Used to be a lot of "Arab" bars there years ago). Seems the girl went there because "the police never check "those" bars. Which also explained why so many of them had hooka pipes sitting in plain view despite being "illegal" (for whatever reason). That area (the "Arab Quarter") was kind of a "no go zone" for a long time, especially if you were white, spoke English and had short hair. They all just assumed you were American and they hated Americans. And apparently even the Police didn't venture in that area very often either. I guess not much has changed in those 25 years.- 1
