The Urolift procedure looks like a winner compared to herbs, medications, surgery. Info at:

http://www.prostates.com.au/prostate/prostate-cancer/urolift/

As a (relatively) younger man with BPH, I prefer a permanent solution like this to a few more decades (should I be so lucky) of drugs with the attendant side effects.

But no info on the cost, unfortunately. I asked a Thai doctor if she knew about - she said not aware of this option here, and maybe a few more years until a doctor here goes OS for the training and invests in equipment to open a clinic specialising in this procedure.

PS I would prefer to follow cheerybie's advice and meditate my way to an unobstructed urethra! With my (admittedly undisciplined & irregular) meditation, I have noticed no changes. Maybe it only happens when one meditates in temples?

Yes am the OP.

Looking at the Urolift ,but further looking suggests it is not a clear case . The prostate cannot be over 100 grammes (or something like) mine was put at 135 a few years ago..

Anyway off to India soon to have the bi-annual body thrown to medical science, camera up the ass ,down the throat, check up for skin, prostate cancer, blood work, heart echo testing all for under $100 a bargain

If I have to have TURPS or similar I am concerned that it will put me off sex forever, couple of areas i had surgery ,one as a few days old baby and I cannot stand touching the area, funny really, but to cancel out the joy of life by surgery gives me the shudders

I don't see why a turp would put you off sex. Even a prostatectomy is not necessarily the end of sex, but more likely.

Just looked at

http://www.prostates.com.au/prostate/prostate-cancer/urolift/

and that would be even better than a turp.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned cayenne powder (chili) but there is some evidence that it can help the prostate. There is anecdotal evidence is can cure prostate cancer in addition to improving urine flow.

I have an enlarged prostate and the attendant symptoms and found some relief from saw palmetto. But it only worked partially for me. After a while, I decided it wasn't worth the cost. But I do take curcumin daily along with some Vitamin C and D to help to minimize the cancer risk. Probably I do have a slow growing prostate cancer (as do many/most of us) but the diet and lifestyle choices can reduce or delay its effects. The problem of Western medicine is one of over-treatment. People suffer and sometimes die from getting a toxic cancer treatment for a non-lethal cancer. It's nuts. Most prostate cancer is not life threatening and not worth the downside of treatment (chemo/radiation).

I recently tried the cayenne powder and found that it seemed to increase the pee flow after a few days (1/2 teaspoon cayenne in hot water twice a day). Last night, I slept all the way through the night which was unusual for me. You can add dry chili to gwuay theeo or just try to eat a lot of chillies. Worth a shot I think. Costs almost nothing and very minimal side effects other than the slight burning sensation in the rear end! :) If you eat a lot of spicy food already, then maybe it won't help you. But if not, then it's worth looking into.

Good luck!

Went to Foodland for any of the many meds for BPH, they searched the shelves, no database, offered me one with 10mg dose, which is the largest dosage, recommendations are to start with 1 mg and progress 2,, 5, 10 depending on results.

Reading possible side effects I think I would keel over with 10mg.

So I went to Dr.O told him that the saw palmetta did nothing, so he prescribed HARNAL 0.4 mg

even in the nearby BOOTS they had to do a visual search !

https://www.healthwarehouse.com/tamsulosin-hcl-0-4mg-capsules.html

i see it is based on tamsulosin

will keep u all advised.

I have been taking the Harnal 0.4mg for about 5 months now ( costs around 1300 baht a month ) and can't say I've noticed any radical improvements.

Try Xatral xl 10mg available without prescription from most pharmacies. Priced from 1150-1400 baht for one month supply of tablets. Was recommended to me by a Thai urologist from Bangkok Pattaya hospital three years ago. Works great and lots cheaper than Flomax or Avodart. Good luck.

i'm taking this medicine now for about 6 months prescribed by my doctor, with excellent results. absolutely no symptoms at all anymore. highly recommended. i pay less - 900-960 per month. very affordable and has the bonus of a Viagra like effect.

I see it works by relaxing the bladder neck (sphincter?) muscle.

Presumably it relaxes other muscles.

Do you notice any effects elsewhere?

I'd like to know where you buy it for 900 baht. I've just now ordered a months supply from my pharmacy for 1300 baht. I told her that I read (what you said) that you can buy it for 900 baht, she said it's impossible to buy for that price.

A Google search doesn't show any such medication called Prostatsin and Doxazosin is a blood pressure medication.

Some Encouraging News, Bought Harnal, 1050 Baht in Bangkok, and been using it for a week, pees during the night down from an average of about 8 to 3 and better flow.

FYI asked price in a Lotus pharmacy South Pattaya yesterday, 1450 Baht !

I should add, I also took another poster's advice and have introduced some (only a little) hot food into my diet. Not very scientific to maybe obscure one effect with another possibly.

  • 8 months later...

Few years ago started to have some problems with urinating. Guessed with my 58 years was having a prostate problem

Went to the hospital and did PSI(?) test, physical test and had checked my urine.

Was not abnormally large, PSI levels were good, urine was OK

But still I had this problem and stared taking meds.

Despite the prostate meds my urinating was still slow, improved some but slower...

Sometime before that I developed allergies and they gave me antihistamine (zyrtec, one of the many brandnames) and

I needed to take that daily, which I did...

Month ago I stumbled (researching natural or herbal solutions for prostate) on a thread that mentioned that antihistamines

could cause prostate or urinating problems.

Stopped the zyrtec immediately and by now all is back to normal.....how about that...

Just wanted to share this with you....there might be more antihistamine users that have this problem...allergies are common

And I prefer the allergy issues above the 'prostate' issues I had..

Having problems with peeing I would hurry to see a good urologist (Sheryl would say: it doesn't depend on the hopital), before the pain will kill you if the "pipe" is closed.

Let him check the reason of your problem. Mabe enlarged prostrate (because of low PSA, this was "some years ago", and now?).

But to exclude cancer is more important. Therefore be prepaired to have a biopsy. Alone the knowledge (and the relief) that you don't have cancer is worth the precedure. Even if you would have cancer, it is curable when in the early stage. I can confirm this by my own experience.

From the sounds of it, he doesn't have a prostate problem but rather was experiencing urinary retention as a side effect of medications. Prostate was not enlarged on DRE, PSA was not elevated, and symptoms went away when he stopped the meds.

I just read all 228 posts, took 2 days!

Dr. put me on cardura, but I couldnt take the side effects. They say cardura lowers the blood pressure and I already have low blood pressure, so I was almost passing out.

I just read one post that said blood pressure meds are used for prostate problems. So, common sense is telling me there is a connection between high blood pressure and the prostate.

Blood pressure can easily be controlled with diet, so maybe guys with High blood pressure would benefit from diet designed to reduce blood pressure?

Im doing the wait and see approach. All the men in my family have died from prostate cancer, but they were all in thier 90's.

I suppose kidney stones have been ruled out, and imagine you would be in great pain anyway. Or could be some structural issue like a small polyp or scar tissue.

Anti-histamines can do odd things, for me it could be the opposite effect. They don't do much good except for hayfever imo. FBN gave me some good advice and that was to find a natural solution. For allergies I would suggest you have to minimise exposure to whatever is causing the problem, and use some decongesting routine.

I assume we're talking about runny nose, sore throat, etc. Cold compresses above the eyes, and on cheeks 3 times a day. Long showers with water playing over head. Steam tent. Or do simple nasal rinsing.
