Given that many countries now advise against holidays to T'land, and subsequent Travel Insurance cancelled in that case resulting in fewer tourists, does any know if T'land private medical insurance remains in place and valid?

I have heard a recent report of someone's car insurance not paying for repair of a car heavily damaged in a crash that occured when the driver was out after the curfew. Don't know about whether is health insurance is going to pay his medical bills, though.

Generally you will be insured as long as you are not actually taking part e.g. should you be walking near and get hit by a stray(?) bullet then you are insured.

Unless you know for sure I do not think it is wise to speculate on something you have been told. He may or may not have health insurance unless you already know that he does?.

I checked with Zurich insurance and no problems with Thailand unless the Australian Government states "do not travel". That is unless you break the law of course. I personally have no concerns about Thailand as the "caution" notice has not really changed in the last five years. Interestingly the Oz government warning for those going to Brazil is far more worrying yet travel insurance is offered for that destination - for soccer fans.

The warning for Brazil is at the same level as Thailand but I know which destination would be safer.

Even with this it seems you can get insurance cover.

My agent with HCC told me it was the evacuation part that came into play if there were current travel warnings....when you purchased the policy...so you can be grandfathered in. Many will deny you coverage if you are participating in illegal activities.

ALL should deny cover if you are participating in illegal activity - but that is a standard clause in any policy at any time.
