iMac crashed

is that always the case or just once ?

did you move your computer arround before that or some time before that ?

the mac can simply not find the system files on the harddrive, this may be a harddik failure, or lost cable connection (last one very unlikely on a imac)

to find that out, boot from USB drive .. and check the harddisk first, this maybe fixed your problem already.

if that fails but the disk is acessable .. the boot partition may be corrupt, can be fixed too (unlike on windows there is no need to kep re-installing) unless there is a real harddisk failure.

Seems to happen all the time yes I did move it from one room to another will try to boot from USB many thanks for your reply. It is old so I guess time for a new one
