Went round there this afternoon and there's about 30 wood cutters flat out decimating the lovely shady Son trees ????

A better Beach View for those opposite?

Happens in my country ... illegally of course.

Don't think so David, opposite is only a smattering of little food stalls and shops that rely on the beach goers for their trade.

They are / were very tall, maybe becoming dangerous.......but pro active safety measures? Highly doubtful! !

My friend is from Pala beach. I guess a guy is clearing that area to put up a restaurant. He's bummed as that WAS their favorite place to go to the beach and sit under the trees. I guess not any more....

If it was for future development (land clearing) they would have taken them off at 2 foot high and sold the trunks.

On the inland road, Bangkok to Chanthaburi they did the same thing about 2 years ago, most grew back very bushy.

I was hoping it is some sort of pruning, anyone know about that?

My wife was told it was to make way for a new restaurant, if so this is the ultimate forrm of corruption. This is for all practicality a public beach. why no locals were trying to stop it is confounding.

I live in Phala beach town and finally came to enjoy that beach... one week later and it's terrible.

There is a big sign in Thai that I'd imagine is explaining what is going on, but I could be dead wrong.

Clearing for a restaurant? Why are the trees all cut at 12 ft? It would be a huge restaurant.

Meant to, but the sign is now gone. It is rather strange that all the trees are still there, truncated to about 4 meters. It gives hope to the pruning theory.

Very nice sign. Quick translation by wifey. It is illegal to cut trees on national park property, and sell or buy property here. It belongs to the national park. Anybody violating this will be arrested.
