2012 Chevrolet Cruise LTZ - anyone have any experience of this model?

A friend is looking to buy a 2 year old (2012) Chevrolet Cruise LTZ for around 450K baht.

It seems very cheap, but I know the market is down right now.

Anyone had any experience of this model? It sounds like a good buy all things considered.

It's probably true that apart from Protons, that Chevy model depreciates faster than most. So, it in fact, may be a good deal if looking for a late model C segment car. Most car guys on this forum would generally advise against the Cruze (including me).

If budget is the primary consideration (around 450k), there are some decent other models, not quite as new as these Cruzes, but still good buys. I would sort by price and model to get an idea on Taladrod, Thaicar, and OLX. Then again, many people will just say buy a new ecocar and be done with it for that money. (new Suzuki for example)

Consider Ford Focus in that segment a couple years old for around 500, and even one year old at around 550. You can get about a 2005 Volvo S60 for that money. Most of the Japanese cars will hold their value better. You can get newish 2011 Proton Persona CNG for 250 (half the Chevy price).

Thanks for the replies so far.smile.png

Keemapoot, why would you advise against the Cruze?

Is it due to the fast rate it depreciates, or some for other reason? I think the buyer intends to keep it for a number of years and is not too bothered about selling it on.

I think if they intend to keep it it would be an ok purchase. The Cruze has been much discussed (and derided) on this forum, as having its genesis at Daewoo, and not a Chevy per se. I've not researched it, but I'm sure there are other members on this forum who can add more details.

There was an [infamous] former member here who bought one and chronicled it's entire first life - from his excitement and pride all the way to his disgust and subsequent dumping the car for a loss.

BUT, as it is probably an ok car, because any issues can be fixed, and you can pick one up for a song, it might be a good choice for someone who intends to keep it longer. You certainly cannot buy any other equivalent newer car for such a price in Thailand.

until later in the year or 2015 when the all new Cruze arrives built on the Chevy/Opel chassis.. the present Cruze is a old Daewoo Lacetti, re-badged Chevy and a load of face lifts so is a very old car and way behind in its class..

2nd hand it is cheap so maybe a good buy..? The Cruze here is not a hatch but a saloon, lots of Ford Focus 2012.. 2.0 .Ghia [top model saloons] For Sale from 385 - 425,000 baht.. no idea if this is a better car ?
