I am taking a run into Laos shortly... can someone tell me what the current Laos visa fee is, if I pay in US$?

Also, I will be attending the Thai consulate to get a Thai visa on a Thursday. I understand that is a day that many visa run buses are there too. Does anyone have an opinion as to a good time to arrive at the Thai consulate? Are there shorter lines around, say, 10:30?

How much you pay depends upon what country you are from. For most it is $35..

I would say the earlier the better. If you can be there at opening time or before you should beat the visa run bunch.

Arriving in Vientiane the afternoon or evening before you plan on applying can save you a lot of rushing and waiting.

Use your U.S. dollars and you will save big. Example Canadians 42.00 U.S. or 1,800 Baht. (Save 500 Baht)

And they do not do half and half all of one or the other and many days the exchange booth there will not sell U.S.

when i was last at the vientien crossing in nong khai there was a currency exchange booth just

past the windows where you turn in and get your visa and passport back. there is no problem

walking past this window to exchange currency before submitting your application as you don't

have to pass any booths (where you get stamped and such) to get there and back.

the rates were not as good as in town but better than giving payment in baht.

Australian's pay $30, less than other countries due to australia building the friendship bridge hence the $5 discount.

I believe the only options you have for paying the visa fee (USD30 for Australians) are Thai baht, US dollars, or Lao kip. Dollars are probably the best deal. Was in & out of the Vientiane airport with visa in hand in less then 20min a couple of weeks ago. Arrived on a morning flight - no crowd at all. Remember to have a pp photo with you.

'Have never used the embassy there. 'Hear the Savannekhet consulate is a MUCH better place for visa business.
