Poll shows over 93 percent of the people are happy with NCPOs performance

BANGKOK: -- 93.09 percent of respondents to an opinion poll are satisfied with the performance of the National Council for Peace and Order in putting an end to the protests by rival political groups.

The end of the protests is one of the ten happiness that the people feel they have received from the NCPO for the past three weeks, according to the Suan Dusit Poll of the Ratchabhat Universitys Suan Dusit campus.

The pollster asked for the opinions of 1,634 individuals during June 10-14 regarding the ten happiness that they feel they have received from the junta. The followings are results of the poll:

87.12 percent said they could return to work as usual as the situation has returned to normal.

85.99 percent admitted that the NCPOs policy to cut cost of living has slowed down the prices of petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)

84.29 percent said rice farmers have received their overdue payments from rice pledging scheme.

80.24 percent said NCPOs economic policy has stimulated trade and investment.

77.32 percent said they felt there is a real attempt to deal with corruption problem.

73.53 percent felt the NCPO was determined to do the jobs they announced.

73.14 percent said they felt they are safer with the presence of the military to keep peace and order.

71.96 percent said the military has get tough with criminal activities such as drug trafficking, illegal firearms possession and robbery.

71.31 percent said they were happy with the lifting of the curfew, the broadcast of all World Cup soccer matches on free TV and free show of the movie, the Legend of King Naresuan 5.

Whatever. It shows that those with a functioning brain in their head and even a minute touch of optimism can see that the coup was needed and the very minor if not even inconsiderable inconvenience of publicly expressing political extremes for a short time is exactly that - of no consequence.

Let's hope u are just as optimistic in 6 months and that the army hasn't put thousands into their so called re-education camps.

How does one get a response from 0.0906% of a person? These fractional percentages are not only ridiculous but impossible. To have a poll result that can be carried out to the ten thousandth place, one needs to poll ten million people and yet, the sample was 1,634. It is sad that the reporters in this country just parrot what anyone tells them. Another example of the lack of critical thinking in this lovely, but backwards, country, and more proof, as if it was needed, that education reform should be near the top of the agenda of the NCPO.

The fractional percentages might have been added to give the poll more credibility to the average Thai, but for me, it calls the whole poll and its methodology into question. Hey, Suan Dusit Poll, pretentious, much?

I agree, some of the posters act as though Thailand will soon be like a Burma-or already is. My wifes village -outside khon kaen- is doing well, most people are happy for the stability the new government has brought. The general seems to be genuine in wanting to problem solve.

I think people are happy with a government that has direction and is actually doing a few things that might be of help to Thailand down the road and there decisions do not seem to favor one group over another. It always appeared that the PTP only supported projects and issues that would feather there nest at the expense of others, there bulldozer way of pushing the projects they wanted without consideration of the locals and the people who would be impacted by a dam or a drainage canal.

By the way not all of Chiang Mai is red plenty of people here do not care for the Shins or their methods

The POLL may or may not be an accurate measure, but opening my window or wandering the streets around Bangkok and Phitsanuluk, and talking with neighbours and friends, tells me that things are now far better than they've been in years. Optimism? Actually I'd say Yes. Just an observation, but I've always found that when it comes to political allegiance here in Thailand, historically its often been more about being 'Anti' something rather than 'Pro' something. Maybe things are changing and a third way is emerging. There are of course negatives, but in the main, people seem to be seeing that a government can be capable of putting the interests of the people before the interests of self.

It's a terrifying concept, the re-eduction camp. However, when a significant tranche of the populus have been conditioned to think that only a Shinawatra is suitable as a leader(even though they have been proven to be corrupt, nepotistic, self serving mafioso, which have direct negative impact on the citizens lives, wellbeing and future opportunities) some form of corrective education must be carried out to reverse the years of Thaksin sponsored brainwashing.
