Croatian police guard Viduka's house

Wednesday Jun 21 20:28 AEST

Croatian police have put an armed guard on the house of Socceroo striker Mark Viduka for fear it will be attacked if Australia knocks the Croats out of the World Cup.

The location of Viduka's villa in Lozica in Dubrovnik was not well known until it was mentioned on a Croatian national TV program by a reporter.

The Croatian newsman, reporting from the Australian camp in Germany, told viewers back home he had been talking to Viduka about how he would feel about putting Croatia out of the competition, identifying where Viduka's house is.

The reporter joked with his presenter about how secure the house would be should Australia go through to the second round at Croatia's expense.

Police responded by putting a squad of officers around the property for fear fans who now know the address could try to damage the villa.

Viduka, who grew up in Melbourne, is of Croatian heritage and previously played his club football for Dinamo Zagreb.

Several members of the Australian team have Croatian roots, and midfielder Josip Skoko also owns property in the Croatian port town of Split.

Barring an unlikely Japan win against Brazil, Australia will only need to draw with Croatia to join Brazil as qualifiers from group F.

lots of croats are involved in this game, but one of interest is that 3 players who are in the croat squad were born in Oz as mentioned on SBS tonight

Croatia A (Croatia ) 1

Croatia B (Australia) 1

Half time score

Update. 2-1 To Croatia 10 mins into the second half.

2 - 2 10 mins to go.looks like Aussie will be through...

Congratulations AUSSIES! :D

Croatia - Australia 2 - 2

Well deserved to go through....

BUT, what an unbelievable _sshole, this referee; his decisions could have costed the Ozzies the 'prize' to go through. :o

He made so many mistakes and wrong decisions, it's almost impossible to write them all down, but he withheld at least 2 penalties (hands) to the Aussies.

Also, he 'forgot' so send this Croatian guy off with 2 yellow cards (=RED) and only gave him a THIRD card :D AFTER the match was finished....so RED (again).

What a fool!

Guus Hiddink on Television, just after the match Croatia - Australia :

"the (our) keeper made a terrible blunder (with the Croatian 2nd goal)"

and:

" 'we' were not satisfied with both (our) keepers* (how they performed) " :D

and

"we deserved it to go on"

* so: who will he put in the goal against Italia ? :o

Wow... what a game. Too much to bring up in 1 post. The English ref had a shocker, missing a blatant rugby tackle on Viduka in the first half and a Croatian handball in the box in the second. Not to mention yellow carding a guy 3 times.

Despite that and the dirty Croatian tackling off the ball & wrestling in the box we're through!

I wonder if there's any chance of getting a neutral ref in the next game. The last couple have been shockers! :o

Never mind all the post mortems the roo,s are through to the next round , what a nailbiter, blind referees a side, bloody well done, got friends and family in Ktown(kaiserslautern for you foreigners) they are wrapped with the aussie supporters and their behaviour , they understand the difficulties of being faced with decent beer for the first time in their lives and the odd schnapps or 2,when they return home, they will forever forsake XXXX and Tooheys and dream of the real golden nectar Warsteiner, Krombacher, or for the real drinker DoppelBock :o here is looking to the next couple of games :D Nignoy

Well done Oz!

Agreed, Poll had a shocker of a match, worst piece of refereeing so far in the tournament.
