Jonathan Fairfield Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Brazilian arrests after flare attack on England fans Police said Thursday they had arrested a group of Brazilian fans who threw flares at England fans in Sao Paulo to watch their World Cup game against Uruguay. Military police said they had detained 15 Brazilians who went on the rampage and threw a Molotov cocktail at England supporters. A spokesman added they had no indication of any fans suffering injury, following media reports of England fans being hospitalized. "A group of people threw fireworks near to the fan fest," a police spokesman told AFP. "Six flares and other fireworks were confiscated and 15 persons arrested," the spokesman added. He said other items seized included a knife and a knuckleduster. The spokesman said he could not confirm reports of England fans being injured. The Sao Paulo fan fest is in the center of Brazil's business hub and has been attracting thousands of fans who, without tickets, can watch the action on a giant screen. Up to 30,000 people can gain access but if numbers exceed that organizers automatically receive notification not to let more in. Tuesday, local media had indicated police had to disperse some fans who were using pepper spray. Police told AFP four arrests were made after a group of fans attempted to leap metal barriers outside the fan fest area. -- (c) Copyright AFP 2014-06-20

bigbamboo Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 The beautiful game? Lol....but there again...Brits invented hooliganism. We invented football and it's associated hoolganism followed. And everyone else has since followed suit. But as for this Brazilian episode maybe the English fans might appreciate seeing an attack with some flare. edit typo
love1012 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 The beautiful game? Lol....but there again...Brits invented hooliganism. What a stupid response - the hooligans were Irish!! The ones in Brazil weren't doing anything wrong - do they have to pay for idiots 20 years ago? You'll no doubt say yes!!
