EC dismisses charge of power abuse against Yingluck

BANGKOK: -- The Election Commission has dismissed a petition contesting the parliamentary memberships of former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra and other members of the parliament who endorsed constitutional amendment to change the composition of the Senate.

EC secretary-general Puchong Nutrawong said Thursday that the EC did not find any clear evidences to prove that Ms Yingluck and supporters of the charter amendments had abused their authority as alleged.

The petition was lodged with the EC before the House was dissolved and by then Ms Yingluck and others legislators were still MPs.

The EC, said Mr Puchon, also dismissed the petition lodged by former Democrat MP Thavorn Senniam protesting the February 2 election on the ground that then acting prime minister Yingluck and Chalerm Yubamrung breached the election law by offering benefits to the voters.

The EC isn't dissolved?

This does not absolve her from all the other numerous accusations against her. The EC has no power other than to investigate election fraud or tampering or coercion of the elections. The courts will have their day for YL and her cohorts. Until then one has to consider under martial law if there was an influence that helped make the ECs decision or was it based on evidence or lack thereof?

.... The EC has no power other than to investigate election fraud ...

Wasn't election fraud not the main reason for the military takeover?!

The EC isn't dissolved?

Has anybody said it was?

Nice try but....no, no, and no.....

Fabie needs to teach you better than that.

Did the EC get approval from the NCPO before making this news public? Thought the country is under a military coup and all decision comes from them? neus.gif

It's now of no benefit to the coup makers to try to get Yingluck and other MPs removed. There are no MPs. Far better from their perspective that the EC present itself as "neutral" by dropping these charges (nonsensical anyway), surely? I mean, that would be the way someone cynical might see this, anyway. They'd be wrong, of course. In reality, we all know these institutions are totally neutral, independent and apolitical, acting only in accordance with the law as written.

Of course she is innocent. She always has been. So take this one and put it where the sun doesn't shine.

Not?! I thought the country needed reforms so no party can buy votes to win? But why to overthrow a government when there is officially "right now" still no proof of abuse of power?!

I think somebody has whispered in somebody else's ear to let this slide for the sake of saving time effort and money because she will soon have a real big date in court whereby it will result in a new wardrobe in a new environment.

I would imagine the EC found on the evidence put before them, and that's fair enough.

But it wont stop the reds gloating...............as we see already.

In all things political Yingluck was aways the monkey not the organ grinder, but that doesnt excuse her ignorance or compliance in matters of coruption and malfeasance.

Yingluck may have been the pretty lace that covered the festering coruption of the PTP party but she took on the responsibility of the party leader and is therefore accountable for the parties actions.

What's a yellow?

Oh boy the yellows are going to be in a tizz over this one!

dont know about the yellows but as far as I am concerned they can only go by the evidence supplied, if there was no proof then they have reached the right decision. Now if the reds and ptp supporters were as open minded and unbiased we would not have all the crap in here we do.

Well a deal is a deal I guess.

You let the coup ho smoothly and we won't lock you up. I love Thai politics. 3 months ago she was guilty of everything including stealing Xmas.

Give it a few more months and she will be completely absolved of everything except the tiniest technicality that will keep her out of parliament.

One of the reasons Thaksin was only charged with one offence from his charge sheet was that it was clear cut and a conclusion could be reached in a reasonable time frame. Thai courts being what they are there is no point in prosecuting unless your case is absolutely watertight.

The EC has no power other than to investigate election fraud or tampering or coercion of the elections.

You know the Thaksin regime tried to make the Election Collection committee their B*****, and now the the military made them THEIR B***** cheesy.gifcheesy.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

The reason for the coup was to remove Thaksin and Co. from power and eventually remove his/their influence in politics.

  • Popular Post

No the reason for the coup was that the yellows are unelectable so once again they hit the streets and force the army to stage a coup.

If you take the word of the peoples medium they have plotted this since 2010.

Anyway Thailand is where it is and the next elections will prove once again who the people really want!

No the coups were to stop the country from decending into a civil war to satisfy the greed and ambition of a convicted criminal and his paid mercenaries and judging by the popularity and lack of opposition that is what the majority of the Thai preople want.

Your believes seem to effect your ability to write logically.

It's not about benefit to anyone, it's about justice for all. Furthermore even though some 'petitions' seemed to be bordering the frivolous the EC had the duty to look into them. Dropping some of these charges is again about justice, not about convenience.

Of course, your comment seem to indicate that you'd rather have elections without an Election Commission which shows at least some level of independence. Allegedly that is, only for the cynical to see.

"EC secretary-general Puchong Nutrawong said Thursday that the EC did not find any clear evidences to prove that Ms Yingluck and supporters of the charter amendments had abused their authority as alleged."

Well if you don't search too hard, hand on heart they can say that they did "not find any clear evidence"

.......and the reds will still have their lips out about having to be removed from power for corruption again
