glassdude007 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Closed?? Looks like closed all locked up?? Always enjoyed my stops at this venue... fun to sit and watch the world go by..
hansgruber Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Closed down. Heard the lease was done and owners set to renovate and open again. Thai business plan 101. 1
LivinginKata Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Closed 1 June 2014. Pity as they had an excellent breakfast buffet. Street level eatery was always busy. I don't see any work being done. Clearly needs an exterior paint job.
glassdude007 Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Hmmm sad news... Would be nice to see it come back in a refurbished state.... The rooms for sure were in need of repair but it was always good cheap accomadations When needed...they were always very generous with the internet service as well even if not a customer can use there computers in the lobby and very nice fish tanks as well kids loved to sit and watch them... Kind of ironic that finally the taxi mess out front seems to be getting sorted and can park out front but now all closed up....too bad Imagine all the buissness lost to no parking cause off the taxi mob.. Hope the Little Mermaid will return some day...
hansgruber Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Went past again yesterday and the roller door was up and a table set up. They were selling the old plate and cutlery from the mermaid. Sent from my D6503 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
madmitch Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 It's a big premises in a prime location. I would guess that the rent has been increased to an extent where a budget hotel can't make a profit any more. Probably see a bank or a 7-Eleven take over, sadly.
Old Croc Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 When I arrived to start residence in Phuket, I stayed there for the first week while looking for a rental, . Great location, but the rooms were pretty tired and ordinary. The restaurant was good, fairly cheap and the ladies working there very friendly. Sorry to see it close down, but it needed refurbishment.
keestha Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 It's a big premises in a prime location. I would guess that the rent has been increased to an extent where a budget hotel can't make a profit any more. Probably see a bank or a 7-Eleven take over, sadly. Throughout the years, I had coffee or a bite to eat there on a number of occasions. It was a pleasant and reliable standby. Always sad when due to high rents an excellent facility is replaced by something else that nobody really needs. A row of shophouses with even more tailors, travel agencies and souvenir shops maybe? When I compare Karon main street the way it was in 2006 with the way it is now.......The number of shops has I think about doubled, places where there used to be for instance a somewhat larger restaurant contain like 2 or 3 shops now. Due to the crowding it has become more difficult to walk on the pavement. Because of far too much visual information reaching the brain, it would be difficult to find one particular business if you are looking for it.
grumpyoldman Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Why do you need a hotel when that side of the street clearly needs a 7/11, Family Mart, etc.,etc... 1
