Motorbike taxi services in Lam Luk Ka District to be reorganized by the Army

PATHUM THANI, 30 June 2014 (NNT) - Major General Kukiet Srinaka, Commander of the King’s Guard 2nd Cavalry Division, has announced the latest results regarding the progress on the reorganization of motorbike taxi services in Lam Luk Ka District in Pathum Thani Province. The Army has taken enforced two measures for this project to restructure motorbike taxi services.

The first measure is to ensure that all motorcycle taxi operators must clearly post a notice board listing all their passenger fares, which is collected according to the distance traveled.

Authorities have also gone down to the area to see whether all the motorbike taxi drivers have a legitimate license approved by the Department of Land Transport to operate their services. If not, then they must be properly licensed first, which is the second measure of the project.

Currently, there are around 81 motorbike taxi stands in Lam Luk Ka District. A total of 3,129 motorbike taxi operators are properly registered and 2,129 of them are still awaiting registration. Only 671 motorbike taxi drivers have a valid driving license and 2,458 of them do not even have a driving license.

Certainly needs a bit of organising.....2000+ have no drivers licence??........moving people around!

"Only 671 motorbike taxi drivers have a valid driving license and 2,458 of them do not even have a driving license."

Why does this not surprise me?

No licence invalidates insurance. Passengers beware.

So you can be registered even if you don't have a driver's licence. That is bizarre.

They've a great habit of riding West along Lam Luk Ka Rd complete with passenger on the wrong side of the road for 1 - 2 kms as well.

Having said that, the Police on bikes do the same, so i guess it must be OK.

Thailand needs to have a driving license crackdown and make sure that EVERY PERSON in charge of a motorised vehicle on the roads is licensed !

And is competent to control a motor vehicle!

Police must lead by example to gain the respect and trust of those they serve.

From my observations, they have a long way to go. I see them riding with no helmets; driving on the wrong way on the streets; sleeping on the job; slovenly and unkempt appearance ; overweight; undue familiarity with the citizenry (which breeds contempt from others) and the list goes on.

Bring in the Hong Kong, Singapore or Australian/UK cops for some Academy instruction and on-the-job training. Nice, but I believe the police brass believes they can handle it themselves.

As one that takes the motor taxis here it definitely gives me pause for concern although i only go short distance with the same bikes.

The only way to stop them is to in fact FINE THEM BIG AND TAKE AWAY their bikes and vests. No vest no customer.

I wish they would stop the wrong way travel on that road and the rest, I have seen so many stupid things and near messy collisions there.

They constantly amaze me at the speed they travel in the wrong direction leaving mm's between disaster and safety.
