Cousteau's grandson spends a month under water

Islamorada, Florida: Fabien Cousteau, the grandson of French oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, has emerged from the deep after 31 days in an undersea laboratory.

The 46-year-old Mr Cousteau - whose efforts bested a 30-day mark set by his grandfather a half-century ago - and his "Mission 31" returned to Islamorada, Florida on Wednesday morning.

His team cheered and greeted him with hugs at the coastal Florida International University facility that operates the bus-sized Aquarius Reef Base undersea research laboratory, the only one of its kind and located 20 metres below the surface.

"This has been a monumental success on multiple levels," Mr Cousteau told a press conference.

I took him and his father Jean Michel Cousteau diving in Belize around 18 years ago.

"This has been a monumental success on multiple levels,"

Why, did he hold his breath?

I took him and his father Jean Michel Cousteau diving in Belize around 18 years ago.

. Jaques Cousteau gave me the worlds first proper underwater camera to try out. The Calypso. He also wanted me to join him on one of his expeditions!

Those were the days!

What can i say, first saw JC on my mothers black and white tv when i was around 5 years old and instantly became addicted. Taught scuba for over 30 years and have dived all over the world. One of my all time heroes

He was a premier environmentalist. I recall seeing one of his specials where he was in waters near the Arctic, and lamenting of detecting unclean water there.
