Thailand expected to recover from gems, gold export slump in latter half of year

BANGKOK, 10 July 2014 (NNT) – The Gems, Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand has reported that exports of Thai gems and gold will likely pick up in the second half of the year, thanks to the global economic revival.

Mr Somchai Phornchindarak, President of the Gems, Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation, admitted that gems export could grow only 5 percent during the first six months, which was considered below target. He said the main reason was that the economies of importing nations were still sluggish.

Similarly, the growth of gold export did not live up to the expectation. Last year, 1.9 billion US dollars’ worth of gold was exported, as opposed to the previous figure of 3 billion dollars a year on average.

Nonetheless, Mr Somchai projected that gold export would be able to expand 10-15 percent for the entire year, given signs of economic recovery in important markets, such as the US, Hong Kong, China, India, Russia and the Middle East. The growth of gems export is also estimated to edge up slightly to 6 percent.

Seems to me that almost every industry organisation, commission or association etc are reporting the same old, same old...

First half year slump, expected recovery in the second half of the year.

So nice to see such a universal optimism.... pity it's mostly BS though.

More drivel.......almost seems that these predictions have been ordered....just ramp up the rhetoric and everyone will be happy..

I would be more positive if they would put a marketing plan together, and show us how they can turn this around,

lack of tourists to sell those fake overpriced thingies to, right

I'm waiting for the headline " Thailand expected to win World Cup in 2018"

Everything will recover. Every industry across the board will recover. Gold, tourism, airlines, gems, automobiles, and all other manufacturing. Why will it recover? Because we say so. Because we think so, because we do not know what else to tell the public. We do not want to give them bad news. It might make it look like we are not doing our jobs correctly. And besides, if we tell them, they will believe us.

Support of the Junta is largely based on the hope that things can only get better , these propoganda articles are just an extension of the same.
