Foreign affairs ministry: Phra Wihan talks will be continued after new govt

BANGKOK, 15 July 2014 (NNT) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it will continue the issue of Phra Wihan temple, saying that a dialogue with the neighboring Cambodia will take place once Thailand has a government.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Natthawut Phothisaro on Monday spoke about the country's actions after the International Court of Justice delivered a verdict in the Phra Wihan case. The official reported that Thailand had formed a committee to analyze the verdict chaired by Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkaeo and it had sent officials to the disputed area twice.

There had been continuous talks between the two countries on the matter with discussions with foreign legal advisors as well as map experts, the official said. However, Thailand's Phra Wihan dialogue with Cambodia would be on hold until a new Thai government was formed, Mr Natthawut added.
