  • This must be one of the most useless posts ever. First you slag off Pattaya and the you proceed to list a bunch of places you've never been to??? Get back under your bridge!

  • All the quoted places above offer less "Hoopla" than Pattaya. On top of that, with the exception of Cambodia and the Philippines, the "Hoopla" can cost far more in those places than in Patty. -------

The Gulch in San Jose, Costa Rica can be fun for a few days...

Rio de Janeiro is always a blast...

Sosua, DR used to be fun before the crackdown...

Angeles City in the Philippines is a right sh1thole...

Cali and Medellin Colombia are top 10...

Mexico? At your own risk dude...

never been to Patts and not interested in going (not interested in hookers which is what it seems to be centered around) but from what I've heard it's like maybe the following will do you:

New Orleans Mardi Gras or jazz festival

Montreal (Jazz Festival)

Heard it gets wild in Bolivia but forget the city names

Same in Lima, Peru but forget the subdistrict, some parts are dangerous

Had a good time in Lisbon, Peru up in the college area on the hill, a bit aggressively drunk though

Angeles City, Philippines.

Toilet.

Pattaya hasnt been wild or crazy for years. It's become a fairly sedate destination for families and pensioners.

If I wanted wild and crazy I would go to Brazil, but even there is only a pale shadow of what it was.

re

Cambodia?

yes ... cheap as chips .. no visa problems

dave2 ... ready at a moments notice if and when :(

Manila

Manila in the old days (late 80's early 90s) was a great place. That strip in Ermita was just wall to wall bars, and great bars with nice decor, top sound systems and 50 or 60 girls dancing on stage. Same with Angeles City when the Yanks were still there. Some of the best times of my life in the Philippines.

As a retired USA merchant seamen I have lived and been to most all the great spots scattered though out Asia and Americas. Starting my career in 1960. In the 60's and 70's believe it or not the best in my opinion was the Motomachi(sp?) Kobe, Japan and also Yokohama, Japan. Also Mabini and Del Pilar streets in Manila. Texas street in Pusan and Whiskey Mary's in Inchon. Also can't forget the famous Red Lion in Hong Kong and all of Wanchi. Mosquito Bar in Bangkok and Klong Toy. Super great times in Sattihib in the 70's. Angeles City when US was there and also Subic Bay in 60's and 70's. Have not been impressed with Angeles now as I think Pattaya has it all over Angeles. Also the bars in Kaohsiung (Starlight and famous Cape of Good Hope) and Keelung. Chinatown in Singapore. Also married and lived a long time in Costa Rica which was super great in 70's and 80's. I could go on and on but there were lots of similar attractions around Asia comparable to Pattaya. I think it has gotten a lot bigger and commercialized now in Pattaya but his has to do with the cheap airfares in the last 30 years and the promotions of the internet which were non exisiant in the 60's and 70's. My favorites overall was Japan, Philippines, Costa Rica and now Pattaya. Just a little insight from an “old timer”.smile.png

These days, young European Males prefer "Hoopla-Places" like the Czech Republic or the Kroatian Islands. = Reasonably priced and "close to home".

Instead of sitting in an Airplane for 10 hours, only to find out that the Thai-Female population working in the "entertainment-sector" in Thailand, has managed to increase their average body weight by 30% while reducing their level of "customer-service" by 70% over the last few years!

Where in Pattaya is wild and crazy now days? would love to know where. Its sedate and tame IMHO now days

And after all these years of flying to Pattaya for some rumpy pumpy, how's your BMI and post-coital repartee doing?

(it's not available for 500 baht anymore either)

Though an interesting topic (whistling.gif ), let's remember forum rules and not discuss the specifics of prostitution.wai2.gif

With that being said, IMHO, there's nowhere in the world like Pattaya. Safe, cheap, English widely spoken, great food, lots of other places to visit nearby, relatively great weather, fairly good infrastructure, etc. I've been to almost every place mentioned here. Each is interesting, but none are like Pattaya. For better or worse!

yes well anyone would have to be pretty desperate to rely on travel advice given by an armchair commentator rolleyes.gif

In my bacchanalian days, it wasn't the locals that made Pattaya wild and crazy, it was the 'tourists'. The locals just came along for the ride, all wide-eyed with amazement.

Then it became politically incorrect to even think about that sort of stuff.

Finally, the 'tourist' demographic changed and all hope was lost.

I see only one other has mentioned Cambodia. "Wild and crazy" used to be the way of things there but I wasn't familiar with it in those days. But it sure isn't that now. And frankly, Phnom Penh (and Cambodia) is better for the cleanup. St. 51 is the only area (a small stretch, really) that's a little crazy and wild, but sometimes for the wrong reasons. Too many drugs and ripoffs/thefts now. Rumour is much of it will all go away when they redevelop the Golden Sorya Mall land. What will be left is some near-riverside areas (St 104, 130, 136, etc.) with some desirable places to go, but all of it behind smoked glass. There is nothing like the come hither action of Pattaya because it just isn't allowed by police.

I can't imagine any place better than Pattaya for all the things craigt3365 lists above. As for the action, it's all tamer and hardly any fun any more. But, for perspective, I just don't care because I've moved past the need to party.

Salt Lake City can get hoppin' on a Wednesday night if your are of the right "persuasion" if you know what I mean!

This New York City American Male loves Croatia and Eastern Europe ! Last summer had a great time in Odessa ! Prices as cheap as Thailand for much better food and the Women might just be the most beautiful in the world !  Also if I don't speak I pass for a local so not getting treated as a farang is nice as well . Added bonus I get to see some of the places my Grandparents came from in Croatia :)

100% true.

Pattaya hasn't been wild and crazy since Purachai cracked down on the farang bar scene. It's never recovered, along with Bangkok.

Be aware this is a four year old topic that someone has resurrected

Windmill-electric blue, Scooters?

Any place can be wild and crazy if you have the money. It just seems to put a burr up some people's butt if the lower classes can have some fun.

Rio De Janeiro must be experienced to be believed. The days of low prices are long gone but it can be affordable if you don't go overboard. I visited in 2006 and the possibilities were amazing.
