Intel Rapid Store Technology

Featured Replies

Wondering about Intels Rapid Storage Technology

Is this something worth installing on a single SSD computer?

I have always seen it already on pre-builts but

not sure it is any better than the stock MCI SATA AHCI controller ?

Just wondering thanks for any thoughts

I can't say whether it's really worth installing or not. I just now it was one of the drivers/utilities available for my Lenovo laptop running Win 8.1 and I installed it.

Ran it for about 5 months when I still had the original Seagate 1TB spinning platter hard drive installed and when I switched to a Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD around two months ago I left it installed...and it's installed/running right now...no problems with my SSD.

Thanks Pib

I basically have the same experiences as you

meaning I have always seen it installed so wondered.

Everything is running fine as is so I may just skip it

unless I see a good reason/compare

But like you I was also prompted at build OS install time

but I think maybe prompted by Motherboard or SSD

because it wanted to also install their new Intel Smart Connect which

I am sure I did not want :)

Thanks

From looking at IRST info it seems to be one of those programs that only manages certain hard drive settings/setup "if you desire it to do so and when you tell it to do so...just because it may be loaded/running doesn't mean its doing much of anything"...and it also seems to be focused towards RAID setups versus single drive setups.

My Samsung 840 EVO SSD also came with a similar type program called Samsung Magician that really just simplifies how you want to setup your SSD in your system like for Max Reliability, Max Performance, or Max Capacity...it also does a couple of things. But it really does most of this by automatically changing Windows settings versus a person having to be a Windows expert and change a variety of Windows settings.

Read this and decide for yourself, windows has it's own drivers too that can do all that i believe

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/CS-020784.htm

Thanks J

Yes I had read that & a few others on Intel.

Which got me wondering initially as it seems directed more at

RAID type setups & made me wonder why you see it on most new laptops.

I know they say improves boot but now that I run a single SSD

the OS boots so fast. Really amazing boot time

I guess I am fine without it thanks
