For people who aren't legitimate in the first place, I don't see how a "visa run" is going to solve their problems. I mean, are there that many married and retired people living here on 30-day entries or tourist visas? As for illegal workers, if they or their employers were going to make them legit, they would have done it a long time ago.

Visa exemption --> Tourist Visa. Tourist Visa ---> Non-Imm Visa. Up your chances.

What makes you think they are retired or married to Thais? And yes, there are a considerable number but they may well not be married to Thais or over 50.

What makes you think their employers are sorting it out for them?

If you are living here on visa exemptions, now is the time to get a visa and there are more ways to do that than you have suggested.

Also, over-stayers need to get themselves sorted out before August 12th...

More like about 2 months from now. The new overstay rules have not been approved yet by the interior ministry.

Friends came back through the southern border yesterday, that was turning people away last week.

The Visa Run operator organised a separate booth to open for them, 200 baht per person for the stamp, no receipt :)

Looks like they scared everyone last week, preempting a new tea money surge.. They all got stamped in and the lady closed the booth, had a chat with the driver as they passed through the check point.

Business as usual...

From reading earlier threads I'd say they will be targeting regional flights, I'm in BKK 830am Wednesday morning from Penang for 12 days with the missus and kids and am expecting a bit of grief. Ive been doing a weekend a month in Thailand , plenty of stamps but not much time in country, suppose I'll see Wednesday morning

Married, under 50s retired, working without visa/WP...are there that many of these living in LOS on 30-day entries or T-visas WHO HAVE THE ABILITY to rectify the situation with a tourist to Non-Imm conversion in Thailand? If they have been living/working long-term without already doing the conversion it suggest they or their employer don't have the ability to legitimize them. Therefore, getting a tourist visa isn't going to solve their problems. (It will at least it gives them up to 90 days to sort out their affairs and get out.)

I think he means people on overstay are getting it sorted before the rules kick in
