Procedure for buying a bike in a different town

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy a second hand motorbike in pattaya and taking it to sisaket to use in my girlfriends village.

I read somewhere there are issues with doing this in regards to registration etc.

Can anybody fill me in on the procedure involved in making the bike legal in sisaket.

Thanks

Bike will be legal anywhere in Thailand, the only issue you may run into when selling the bike.

I've bought my 1st bike in Phuket and the transfer to a different province was done at the same time with the name transfer, we did however keep the Phuket plate as wife said it's "more cool" than the Chaiyabhuum plate. :D

why not buying it from the same province your gf lives?

Sorry I am just copy pasting from my answer on another thread

If you want a simple answer then get an " agent " to do all the running around.

could save a big headache but take weeks.

Longer way is you can go to the department of land transportation ( DLT ) in the provinvce the bike is currently registered

and change the name in the green book....the bike will still be registered in that province and will keep the same number plate

you can pay tax and insurance anywhere no mater where the bike is registered.

seller doesn't have to go to DLT but you will need a signed " nungsue moub umnart " หนังสือมอบอำนาจ form from them.

This is ok if your home province is near to the registered province ( not much fun if you live in Bangkok and have to travel upto Chaingmai )

Even longer way is to take the bike to your local MAIN DLT and first step request a change of provinces,

this can't be done in one day

you'll have to go back at least one more time to change the name in the book and recieve a new number plate.

They will need to see the bike to take rubbings of the chassis and engine numbers

if the tax and insurance is expired you must renew these before they will start the transfer process this is easily done at the DLT

and depending how long ago they expired there will be a small fine.

depending if you are moving provinces or tax expired etc they will want you to get a certificate of road worthyness ( MOT ) either at the DLT or at an outside testing center ( normally there are a few very near to the DLT )

documents required ( seems to vary from province to province ) if moving province you'll need the " request to move province form "

Thai seller
Signed copy of ID card front and back ( not expired )
Signed copy of house registration ( not allways required )
signed " nungsue moub umnart " หนังสือมอบอำนาจ ( if seller is not going with you to DLT )
signed "beb kum kor own le rup own " แบบคำขอโอนและรับโอน ขส.บ. ท. - 11
greeen/ blue book signed

Foreigner seller needs
certificate of residence from imigration
copy pasport photo page
copy of visa page and or extension ( not expired )
signed " nungsue moub umnart " หนังสือมอบอำนาจ ( if seller is not going with you to DLT )
signed "beb kum kor own le rup own " แบบคำขอโอนและรับโอน ขส.บ. ท. - 11

Ok thanks. This all seems too difficult. I think I will look around sisaket for a bike. I was trying to avoid this because no one speaks english, and I was going to surprise the girlfriend
