A park which you can walk your dog

Featured Replies

I will be much appreciate if your guys who stay in Chiangmai for long time can suggest me which park we can take our dog? As I will have to leave to Bangkok next month to visit my mother. I just want to help my husband for any information he may need to live here.

We are newbie. I just want to help my husband to make more friends.

Thank you.

If you are wanting guidance on which park to walk your dog can you first confirm that you will be taking plastic bags to take away anything your dog deposits on the ground? Fair and reasonable question I think!

I love dogs...but I had hard time looking for a nearly nice park to take mine in Chiang Mai....until moving to Chiang Rai. Here to many and too beautiful parks and wild areas close to town. Very few dogs walking, very few, most with Thai owners. My favorite..the Rajhabat University Park and lake.

Farangs dog lovers of Chiang Rai....unite!

My dogs walk every day at Huay Tung Tao - many walking trails. Have to be a bit careful about stray dogs but haven't had a problem. HTT is off Canal Rd a short way past 700 year stadium. Also has a big lake - my dogs love it - highlight of their day!

I would do that. I used to live in UP, Michigan. They even provide a free bag at the some cover of the park. If you failed to take care your dog's deposits, the fine $50 will be charged.

We live in the area that we can walk our dog as well. But we would love to find the park we can picnic with our dog. ^_^

I used to take mine to the Fitness Park next to Chiangmai Zoo in Huaykeow Road.

I take my dog to H.T.T with the lake mentioned .Its big enough that he can shit and piss at his pleasure without me taking a shovel .lol .When he is swimming in the Lake i think he also does a secret piss .

I m not a big fan of dogs. Never have been. Thing is though, its mostly not the dogs fault. Its the irresponsible owners. This reply proves my point. I rest my case.

A few months ago I took my dog to HTT and she immediately dove in and had a good swim - she loves that place! However a couple days later she developed scab-like rashes all over her body which took several weeks to heal. Some sort of parasite in the water. This was the only time she's had that issue, but now I'm nervous to bring her back there again.

My 2 dogs both Labradores who i used take there daily ,loved to swim ,and never developed anything from the water. They did both get a nasty dose of ticks from the long grass though .

Later i gave the dogs away to a Farmer (for reasons i dont have to go into here ) .I have now acquired their son ,a puppy just 2 months old who i shall bring to W.T.T when he is old enough .

That'll be nice for him until 'give away' time comes around again.

We used to take our three golden retrievers swimming there on a weekly basis a few years back...

What's important is we bathed them at home after their time in the water each time..

I shall give him away if the same circumstances ,( which involved the Thai Police ) ,which i did not go into ,come around again .This is less likely this time as the Pup does not seem to have inherited his fathers agression ,and is more like the mother.

I don't doubt it.

It's against the law for your dog to swim in the lake at HTT.

Big fine if the park rangers catch you.

Signs up everywhere.

Like against the law really stops Thai people from doing specific behaviors. I never seen people who disrespect the law as much as Thai people. It's just not a law and order society. It works on who you know and if you can get way with it, that behavior will continue. Actually, a lot of farangs' driving behaviors are law violations as the chance of being caught/paying a bribe less than the true penalty is a small risk here. That is why so many come here whether to ride bikes to drugs to prostitution to criminal businesses (like fake passports and ATM scams) to field/waste burning (with plenty of signs around) to letting your dog swim in a lake posted with signs. People seem to think they can do anything they want and pretty comfortable in getting away with it with the right connections...

They might have park rangers but I wonder if they really function as enforcement body (like Thai traffic police for moving violations)?. Yet to see a cop whiz by and pull over a speeder or a red light runner in 11 years of driving here...

As to illegal dog swimming, if you go to an area away from where they serve food or roped off for swimmers, never seen a park ranger let alone being warned or ticketed. People bring their dogs in by car or truck but never heard about gate collectors asking about their dogs or hand out a flyer about dogs in the water..

And then there is the issue of all the soi dogs on the west side of the lake. I wonder what their plan is to keep them out of the water? I have to choose an area where they are not already taking a leisurely dip...

As long as one doesn't step on a Thai person's profit margin or hurt their feelings, whether something is legal or not doesn't seem to drive this culture...Regulatory compliance is not one of them...

People can teach anything to a dog and, if walking with a leach, to walk around people and other dogs without any problem, pu and pi on right places But.....this is Thailand..

I do not know how a soi dog will learn to read park signs or pay fines to a ranger....

I think that even the Rajhabat University knows about limitations in learning...and thats why its park do not have signs about.

Soi dogs enjoys the park and the lake, and respect other dogs...and...they pi and pu only by the trees....Soi dogs doesn't like humans to interfere with their freedom..and that it is normal..and that it is very Thai and smart.

sign or no sign, do you think its acceptable, based on a previous post you made to allow a dog to sh*t & p*ss every where in a public park and you make no effect to clean up your dogs own excrement ?... one suspects you cant take care of yourself, never mind a dog, ok If come and take a dump on your lawn and not clean it up ?

Shame on you, sir. If you can´t clean up after your dog, get a Teddy Bear!!!

I wonder who took the sign down? Let me guess is it a Rottweiler or Pit Bull?

Their number one and two is good fertilizer for the grass and shrubs .Do i clean up at home ? Yes ,i power spray my yard daily, now having a dog again if only a pup.

There are also a lot of stray dogs at W.T.T. Who cleans up after them ?

Good fertilizer or not, you should Google 'diseases from dog feces to humans' and read what dangers you are putting people into.

In my opinion, irresponsible dog owners should not be dog owners.

You state that you live in Thailand, do you have to fly home to appear on the Jeremy Kyle show?

Only one place for you.

Anto FYI dog feces and dog urine actually kills grass and shrubs. If you want manure it has to come from a herbivore. You know Jack Feces.
