Could make money all day long going up and down specially with all these villas in the moutains

Spoke to a guy this morning that just arrived here via a weeks holiday in Phuket. Comes here numerous times a year. Says that despite the new regulations/changes the fares are exactly the same as he's always paid!!

Perhaps he was not aware of the changes, same as many tourists will not know any better & get gouged.

As I don't live on Samui yet many members do, who are part of the community, I'm just wondering who in the Samui community has accepted this additional 50 baht service charge?

I can't imagine any locals, be they Thais or expat readily agreeing, sounds more like it was an agreed to demand.

Some so-called taxis-meter do have the 50 bahts overcharge sticker , but ......... They dont HAVE METER INSIDE THE TAXI .....

Next thing will be that they charge their normal 400 bath from airport to Chaweng and then add 2 x 50 bath on top of that and try to convience people that's the way things are working now.

So has anyone used a taxi since this came in and how much is it per km?i know its 100 baht minimum to start with.so if i got one from Banrak to chaweng how much?

Every taxi should have the drivers phone number stuck inside the cab in case of lost items on the taxi

I'm a "regular local" but you won't hear from me. I avoid taking a taxi at all cost. I hire a friend of a friend to take me where I want to go. It is always a reasonable price and no hassle.

I went to TAT (official tourist info) in Nathon a few days ago and asked about taxi ürices and meters. The lady told me, in an absolutely convinced tone ( not convincing though, for I knew she was wrong) that since August taxis would use metres "because there is a new law." (LOL)

Well, at the pier where all the food stalls are, I tried with about 20 of the taxis waiting. No one has ever used or will ever use a metre, some pretended not to know what I am talking about.

The TAT lady also said that Nathon- Maenam would be 200 - 250 BTH (not sure if she meant metred). All drivers said "600" though. After an annoying 15 min of haggling with about 5 drivers, someone had mercy on me and drove me for 300.

So metre and taxi is and will remain a complete joke. Why don't they cover their "metre taxi" sign on the car roof with some Thai boxing advertisement or other? Would make a few more buck.

Latest incident with Songthaew: Guy asked 200 BTH (around noon) for 1 km ( ringroad Lamai, wanted to get to Lotus Tesco). I kindly asked him if he didn't think this a tad too bold, and he drove off!
