Hi there folks, looking at getting a fare from Rome to CNX in November and Etihard do a reasonable $1000 return. I was wondering if I just buy a one way ($500) and leave the return flexible (so I dont have to pay date change fees), how easy would it be to get a standby flight in late Nov/early Dec back to Rome, for about the same price or would I be paying a higher price at that time of the year? Also, any suggestions for cheapest airlines?
Thanks for your attention...

If you don't have a Thai visa before you leave you may run into problems as I don't think you can fly into Thailand without a visa if you don't have a flight out of Thailand already booked

You need a Tourist Visa 60 day + 30 day extension for a one way flight. With out this the airlines will not let you board.

Excellent advice, thanks. I had forgotten that my one year visa expires in October, I will look into extending that, whatever way is cheaper.

Singles out of Thailand seem to be costing a lot in my experience. Even return to Europe from here were more than going and coming back the other way around.
Might have changed since I last looking though.
These days the later flights / stand by more than if booking whole thing well in advance no?

wait.. Tourist Visa 60 day + 30 day extension? can you apply for 30 day extension before you arrive?? and is it necessary???

No. can be applied for at any immigration office in Thailand in the last 30 days of your 60 day tourist visa. Passport photo and 1900 baht.

I could not find any direct flight between Rome and BKK - FOR A GOOD PRICE, there is always a detour to Russia or the Middle East. The cheapest I found for that time of the year was $1000 USD. I would  not waste my money on the Thai flight but good to know that it exists, thanks.

Seems like it will be easier to just buy a return ticket and get the standard 30 days stay, thats all I need. Too much of a hassle with the other alternatives. Thanks for all your input!
