Belgian man falls to death from Pattaya condo

CHON BURI: -- A Belgian man fell to his death from the rooftop of a 16-storey Pattaya condominium late Tuesday night, police said.

Pol Lt Col Pongsak Wongwan, an inspector of Tambon Pattaya police station, said Frans Vilenick, 39, was found dead on the ground floor of Pattaya Centre Condo in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district at about half an hour past midnight.

Pongsak said the man apparently jumped from the rooftop of the condominium because there were traces of his footsteps on the wall on the rooftop of the condominium, indicating that he climbed over the wall and plunged down.

The man stayed at a room on the sixth floor of the condominium with his Thai wife, Saowalak Sriwiangpol, 39.

Saowalak told police that the man had been living with her for three years and had never returned to visit his family in Belgium. But recently, his family called him to go home and he was scheduled to leave for Belgium at 2 am Wednesday.

Saowalak said she did not know any reason which might motivate her husband to commit suicide.
