Flood situation in Northeast improves

BANGKOK, 12 August 2014 (NNT) – The flood situation in the Northeast has eased almost completely, although the inundation has left behind swathes of devastated farmlands.

Amnat Charoen governor Wirawat Chuenwarin said 118,000 rai of rice paddies were inundated, resulting in 80,000 rai of rotten rice plants. The flooding in seven districts of the province also killed off the grasses that cattle feed on. Owners of cattle are reporting a shortage of feed for their animals.

Provincial officials said on Monday that the water levels in waterways have almost returned to normal. The water situation in Amnat Charoen is expected to return to normal within 3-4 days, provided that no more heavy raining occurs and no more influx of water arrives from north of the province.

The Meteorological Department reported on Monday the southwesterly monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand has weakened. There will be rain in 20-30% of the country's area.

We missed out on all that in Surin

Are you talking about this year, or last, as I seem to remember big problems in Surin & Sisaket last rainy season?

Hell the North east of Thailand is 800 metres higher than Bangkok ...check Google Earth it will show elevation above seas level.

How can it flood up here?

I live up here and I didn't see any floods

There must be valleys somewhere to flood I suppose.

I am getting disenchanted with the accuracy of the news

Regards

Last year the problems,at least in my area, lasted all of three days, nothing worth noting. This year the rainy season, apart from a few hefty showers just hasn't happened. I knew, from reading about the coming El-Nino, that this  would happen and didn't plant any rice.
