HI

My wife recently applied for her ILR and we are waiting on her decision .

I started to look into Naturalisation for my wife for the next step as she has been in the UK 3 years in December .

In Section 3 Good Character Requirement

In Guide AN

You are expected to fulfill is payment of income tax and National Insurance contributions or if self employed give details in Q3.1 -3.5

Does this mean you have to be in employment to apply for Naturalisation ?

thanks mark

No your wife does not need to be employed.

Checks may be made to ensure all required taxes have been paid. No income ,no tax payable.

Thankfully it is generally the most straightforward paperwork to complete, much less complicated than visa applications. Just make sure all tax is paid and there are no criminal convictions!
