Bangkok Airways out of CM

I'm looking at a Malaysia Airlines ticket to Sydney from CM. Bangkok Airways to Bkk then Malaysia Airlines after that.

I was wondering if I'd go through immigration here in Cm or in Bangkok. Anyone out there taken that route?

It's a cheap offer nowadays.

Have done t a few times going to Oz with Airasia, Thai smile and Bangkok Air going to Bangkok and then a variety on to Oz.

You can check in internationally in CM but the issue is getting your baggage from one carrier to another. Its easy enough if there is an alliance partner on both legs otherwise its a real hassle getting your bag ticketed through. Also you have not mentioned how long your lay over is and that can cut things fine if you have to pick up your bag and then clear immigration.

The rule for me is clear immigration at CM if my bag can be ticked through, or depart CM as domestic and clear immigration at Bangkok if it cannot. Of course if you just have carry on I would clear international at CM if possible.

Most times now I just stick to Airasia (who depart CM direct to KL and then on to Oz, or Singapore Airlines who use Silk Air from CM to Singapore and then Singapore Airlines on to Oz) and avoid Bangkok altogether. Rare occasions now if it is a good deal will do Thai Smile and then Thai Airways.

Dollar wise Airasia is generally the cheapest by far but you have to look at the lay over times for me than can be 3 hours as a minimum if I hit it right.

Who would have thought that Malaysian Airlines would be cheaper now ........

I see Malaysia Airlines in on their list .....check- in and immigration in CM and pick up the bags in Sydney.

Thanks a lot for that info.

Hope you are not getting some disgruntled MH pilot on your flight. I could imagine low prices from that airline these days and plenty of empty seats.

In March this year I flew AirAsia from CNX to OOL (Gold Coast) with a transit stop at KL. CNX to OOL in 14 hours.

So nice not having to do Immigration and baggage check and then an overnight hotel plus a taxi return trip or train if AirAsia TRUE hotel is not to your taste.

My only problem arriving at dawn is Customs officers in Oz who rarely even try to be nice. Next time I'll leave all electronic gear in Thailand. If you are carrying medicines, try and remember to bring the Doctor's prescription. I didn't. blink.png
