Hi there,

I'm hoping to embark on a trip to Thailand early next year for 3 weeks on a solo adventure.

I really want to do a lot of adventure tours and get out and see Thailand for what it really is to make some unforgettable memories.

I've made a list of tours that I've come across and wanted your opinion on them and also some recommendations for ones I haven't included or may of not even known of existed.

*Sea Cave Canoe in Phuket

*Zip lining in Bangkok (Flight of the Gibbon)

*Elephant adventure Chiang Mai

*Elephants at work Chiang Mai

*Snorkelling in Koh Tao (Turtle Island) (Koh Samui)

*White water rafting in Phang Nga

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Lawrence

I'm jealous! You've got some great activities planned. I did the sea kayaking with John Grey. A bit pricey, but it was just me and my guide. One of the best times I've ever had. Priceless.

If you are up north, try the kayak trip from near Pai down to Mae Hong Son. Not really intense rapids, but great fun. In MHS, try a trek up to the mountains and spend the night. See the hill tribes, etc. Very nice trek.

Another is to spend a night on the floating "hotels" at Khao Sok. Expensive, but great fun. Especially if combined with the trek to the cave, etc.

Pick the right elephant adventure. If they allow you to ride on them it's the wrong one. They are horribly abused creatures here.

Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated.

I'll keep that in mind about the Elephant tours, I've heard great things about the Elephants at work tour where you can watch them play etc!

Where will you have a holiday after this adventure? wink.pngfacepalm.gif

Sounds great but in three weeks it's a bit too much to try & fit in.... pick fewer places and relax and enjoy a bit more....thumbsup.gif

(i.e do either the south or the north)... you'll be wasting too many days just going from place to place... IMO!

Both the south and north have lots to offer.... pick one region and enjoy.... come back again and do the other areaswink.png

The only zip line you'll find in Bangkok will be the electric wire strung from Bayoke II Tower to Bayoke I tower. No gibbons, sorry.

White water in Phang Nga? Just slow, lazy-flowing streams down there.

Double check your geography, friend, before stepping on the plane.

I did almost the exact same itinerary with a relative back in January. Doing both north and south in the same trip is possible if you take a couple of flights to save time. We had a short 16-day window, but got it all in. Go for it!!

they have a zip line here in Phuket as well

John is a good friend of mine so make sure its HIS company u travel into the hongs with as the tour agents will will push the other ones.

NO white water in Phang Nga but there are the caves and climbing.

You might find the elephant adventure/work better in Surin and less touristy

Another suggestion:

Have a look at a bicycle tour in Chiang Rai (www.chiangraibicycletour.com). Various tours. Get out and see some of the countryside. Very beautiful. They can also take you to an elephant camp, "so you could kill two birds with one stone".

I can highly recommend this. You can check it out on Tripadvisor.

The tour is called "Flight of the Gibbon" in Chiang Mai if that rings any bells?

Are you sure? I've done some research and have found tour sites which provide water rafting in mountain rivers?

How much do these flights cost? Are they fairly cheap? (considering they will save a large amount of time)

Try the elephant conservation centre in lampang east of Chiangmai , I m pretty sure you can do 4-5 day mahout course, washing & tending elephants & calves.

VIP busses work well between the cities, and of course the inter city plane flights are good, such as getting from BKK to Koh Samui or Phuket to Pattaya. Just be careful about spending too much time traveling and doing a whirl wind tour. While I like to see and do things, do consider taking several days to just swim, walk around, etc. For some beautiful serene scenery I recommend the ancient ruins at Sukhothai. A quiet town, but well worth a two day visit. An easy 6 hour bus ride from Mo chit (northern bus terminal in bangkok). After 3 hours the bus stops, you walk around have lunch etc. If you end up in Pattaya, I do recommend the Nong Nooch botanical gardens. If you get to the Indian ocean side, Phuket and Karon beach with the giant white buddha overlooking the beach is really serene. Even after 12 trips to Thailand, that really impressed me. Of course you can take a taxi up to Patong for a night or two of nightlife. Great seafood. Scenery on the west coast with those limestone stacks is calling me back. I went to Phuket twice and Ao Nong for one week and loved it. So much more to see.

If you've done much white water rafting, I think you might be disappointed with what you'll find here in Thailand. It's very tame. And it depends on the water level. I was at that river 3-4 months ago and it was almost bone dry.

Again, avoid riding the elephants there.
