Lucky numbers, back to "normal"

Today I went with my missus in to Phuket to buy some tickets for her for the lucky number draw.

Two weeks ago the prices were down but today they were up to the "normal" rate just like before the crack down on overpricing lucky number tickets.

I was and wasn't surprised, I had hopes for the Thai people wouldn't get stiffed all the time but I guess it's like with the tuk tuks in Phuket.

It looks like they are all back in the same spots all over the coasts again. bah.gif

I must admit, I was naive if I thought any change would last. sad.png.pagespeed.ce.5zxzyGiJz0.png

You do realize that the people selling the tickets are Thai people too and quite often disabled or otherwise unable to have many options in the job market. Maybe the drop in price hurt them more than the ones running the lottery.

Do you really know who's selling these tickets in Phuket town opposite Robinsson, wealthy Thai's with regular shops, that's who.

I'm not talking about the street vendors or ticket walkers.

Why not buy them off the ticket walkers or street vendors. They could do with the sale the most.

I buy one occasionally and give it to my apartment cleaner and crack a joke with her that if the ticket wins first prize, she has to marry me and take care of me. smile.png

I also tell her that I have already rubbed it on lucky Buddha, so no need for her to do it again. :)

Why buy them at all? What is the percentage that you would win?

It's psycological. It's the "hope" of winning that entertains people. The Thai's believe the "good lucky" comes from being a good person, or, "jai dee." :)

If I was into the lottery, I'd go with the black market. Winnings much higher that the state lottery for the same win.

Or, maybe the black market that runs Monday to Friday and runs on the two digits after the decimal point on the SET. At least you know it's not fixed.

Hey......but, that's just me.......

The mrs plays once or twice a month.

To me the payout odds are themself a con , 2 numbers pay 50/1 of course the real odds are @ 99/1.

She don't buy from anyone on the street, not after when she worked in BKK and saw a brand new SUV letting people out from it with ticket boards full of disabled people getting orders to sell.

Back to 100B up in Chiang Mai too. Big loss of face for the junta when this gets into the news. Was bad enough they couldn't get it down all the way to 80B.

The junta really failed on this one.

I got one at big c near our place the other day, 90 baht. Ticket on sukhumvit near my office was 100 - however it was Phrom Pong so spending anything less than 100 one would lose face.

For those who ridicule anyone who plays on the lottery here.

In my native country, Sweden, they have numerous of lotteries and gambling, Keno, Lotto, trotting horses, race horses, football betting, ice hockey betting and maybe hundred more types of gambling and lotteries.

I can't for my life see the difference between people who bet their hard earned money in either country, Thailand or Sweden.

It's the dream of winning the extra money that can tip the scale over to a "better" life, maybe use the money to move to Thailand.

The difference someone might say is Thai use frogs, piilok, monk prairs and night time dreams, to find the numbers, but I'm not so sure we couldn't make fun of ourselves trying to resolve the winning numbers.

People in my country and I assume other counties too, look for numbers in everything, even in prairs.

There's a chance in a million, anyone could become a millionaire here, but most Thai people I know, aren't whishing for that, no they simply don't believe they are that lucky.

The most interesting part of the draw are the two last digits, they get extremely happy if they win 2000 THB.

Can I deny my wife that feeling when it happens?

and the winning ticket? a couple from Phuket

Actually, yes.

Apparently someone won 30 million THB in Rawai this draw.

What incredible timing you have. clap2.gif

The way my wife tells it - one number wins 4 million, but this couple have more than one winning number (I don't understand this) and subjet to how many winners then this couple could win 34 million. Clear as mud to me.

And of course if they never bought the ticket they would never have won.

Like the saying goes ,you got to be in it to win it.

One ticket can win x million

But you can buy multiple tickets with the same number

So for every ticket = x ticket x million

As I understand it, one ticket with two correct six numbers win 2 000 000 on each number, the next draw is the serial ticket number, I think 00 to 99. The person with six correct numbers + the serial number, win 4 000 000 + 30 000 000 or depending on the ticket (it is in writing on the back how much the ticket is worth when winning) 20 000 000.
